Sammy won the toss and became the first captain to opt to bat first. There was an early dismissal for Lahore as Yamin took a superb return catch to get Tamim. Kamran hit regular boundaries to keep the run-rate at a respectable level but Hafeez struggled at the other end and was eventually dismissed by Yasir as he tried to sweep and was bowled. Kamran reached his fifty off 36 balls but was eventually given out stumped off Yasir in a very close decision. Samuels faced a struggle at the crease while Shakib was more free flowing and the former ultimately fell to Narine for 17. Afridi was soon run out followed by Shakib who fell to Tanvir but Sammy gave the finishing touches to the innings by taking 16 off Tanvir's last five deliveries as Peshawar ended at 166/6.
The Lahore openers began strongly with Delport hitting five fours off Asghar in the second over as Qalandars raced to 33/0 after the first two overs. However, Hasan Ali pulled it back in his second over as he got Delport caught and bowled with a sharp bouncer. Suddenly, Fakhar fell cheaply to Hafeez while a mix-up saw McCullum run out. The slide continued as Shakib has Umar and Elliott LBW in the same over. Next over, Hafeez had Rizwan caught behind with a superb delivery - Lahore had lost 6 wickets for 5 runs at this point. Yamin and Narine fought back with a partnership until the latter was caught off Wahab's bowling. Yamin also fell to Sammy for 25. Tanvir and Yasir put on another partnership but couldn't quite keep up with the required run-rate as they finished 17 runs behind.
