Mohammad Nawaz is a left arm orthodox bowler and a hard-hitting batsman. He began playing his cricket with the Rawalpindi Under-15s. It did not take long for him to be marked as a special talent from a very early age as he was selected to tour with the Pakistan Under-15 team to the West Indies in 2008 with fellow colleagues Babar Azam, Zafar Gohar and Usman Qadir. He has been a prominent wicket-taker and scorer through his youth ranks in the inter-district competitions. Some of his highlights being a 203*in a 2-day game against the Chakwal Under-19s at the Khan Research Laboratories Ground in Rawalpindi, and bowling figures of 6-8 in just 11 overs against Mianwali Under-19s at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

It was no surprise when Nawaz was selected for the Under-19 tour to South Africa earlier in the year. On that tour, he particularly impressed as a wicket-taking middle-over bowler. Mohammad Nawaz picked up his first man of the match performance of that tour against the South Africa Under-19s at the Stellenbosch University Ground, when he skittled the home team with figures of 5-33 in his allotted 10 overs. A couple of weeks later he outdid that performance at the Wally Wilson Oval in Rondebosch where he finished with figures of 5-19, including a hat-trick (Ngoepe, Frylinck, Muller). He finished the tour as Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets at an average of 16.35. More recently at the Asia Cup in Malaysia, he showed his all-round ability with an attacking 53 runs off 33 balls with the bat before returning to pick up 3-9 with the ball against the hosts.

Nawaz has also made his List A and Twenty20 debut with the Rawalpindi Rams in 2012, with some useful lower order contributions with the bat and a handful of wickets.  At the ICC Under-19 World Cup that year, Mohammad Nawaz picked up 10 wickets with a top score of 82 against Bangladesh.

In his brief list A career so far, he is proving to be a very handy all-rounder, currently averaging 41 with that bat and 34 with the ball. He helped his team reach the semi finals of the 2013 Presiden't Cup where they were beaten by a powerful WAPDA side.

Until the 2014-15 season Nawaz is a regular feature for the National Bank side for his List A and First Class cricket. He also features for Rawalpindi Rams to play T20's where the recent tournament was not so good for him as he failed to pick up a wicket in the 4 matches and scored only 55 runs at an average of 13.5. Despite he remains one of the hottest young prospects knocking on to the door of the national team.
