A cousin of Pakistan cricket's popular Akmal brothers (Kamran Akmal, Adnan Akmal and Umar Akmal), Babar Azam is a budding young talent who has represented Pakistan in two Under-19 Cricket World Cups in a row, finishing as the team's highest run scorer of the tournament on both occasions. He captained the Pakistan Under-19s on their tour of South Africa, at the Asia Cup, the tour of Australia as well as the World Cup in 2012. A young opening batsman who is being considered as one of the finest prospects to come out of Pakistan, he has a lot to live up to. Establishing himself as a leader at every level of play, Babar Azam is highly regarded among experts and fans alike.

While being prodigious at the lower levels of cricket, Babar Azam began his domestic career at  in the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) side and after showing promise moved to the State Bank of Pakistan where he reached new heights.

After consistent performances in domestic cricket, particularly in List A's, Babar Azam was finally rewarded a spot in the Pakistan side in the tour to Bangladesh following the World Cup 2015. However he did not make his debut till the final match of the home ODI series against Bangladesh. Coming to bat in a tough situation, the 20 year old played an innings of extreme maturity and composure to score 54 runs thereby helping Pakistan to a big total when it seemed beyond reach/

Young Babar has shown his potential since a very young age and his Under-19 career establishes how talented this young man is. From the ages of 15-17, Babar has averaged 40.17 from 32 matches for the Under-19 team. Aged 16, he was Pakistan's highest run scorer at the Youth World Cup in 2010 which was held in New Zealand. Playing against the talented players much older than him, Babar has always performed and continues to do so. His vast experience at this level made him an obvious candidate for the captaincy.

Equipped with a prolific opening partner in Sami Aslam, these two were considered one of the scariest opening duos on show at the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2012. While Aslam failed to live up to the expectations at the prestigious tournament, Azam scored 287 runs at an average of 57.40 in 6 matches.

Along with his superlative batting and leadership abilities, this young man is also a top grade fielder.
