Born in Multan, Rahat Ali is an upcoming left arm fast bowling prospect for Pakistan. His performances have turned a few heads at the domestic level. Experienced domestic campaigners such as Yasir Hameed and Nadeem Iqbal have been praising his talent level, stating he has what it takes to play at international level.

Rahat Ali has been able to maintain a good average in FC cricket and is known to get the ball to swing at 140+ KPH with his side on action.

His good form resulted in calls for his selection and participated in the 2012 ODI series in Sri Lanka, but played only one match.

He made his test debut in the first test against South Africa in the 2012-2013 series but was unable to take a wicket. He was brought back again in the last match of the series and tooka career best of 6/127. In the Test series against Zimbabwe, Rahat Ali took 8 wickets in the series which included an important spell of 5/52.

Rahat played a match in the 2014 series in UAE against Sri Lanka but was unable to make an impact and was subsequently dropped. However he was recalled in the series against Australia and UAE and gave a steady performance in both matches as Pakistan swept the series 2-0. He upped his performance level in the following match against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi where he took six wickets in the match to lead Pakistan to a comprehensive victory in the first test. Pakistan drew the series whereas Rahat's personal performance was inconsistent.

Despite being out of the picture in ODI cricket, Rahat was recalled to the side after almost 3 years and selected to the World Cup squad due the injury problems afflicting the squad. After sitting out the first two matches of the World Cup which Pakistan lost, Rahat was selected for the match against Zimbabwe and played an important role for the rest of the campaign as Pakistan reached the quarter finals. His performance in the South Africa matches where he took 3-40 was a particular highlight. However Pakistan crashed out in the quarters after a defeat to Australia and Rahat's dropped catch of Shane Watson played a crucial role.

Rahat Ali was selected for the disastrous tour of Bangladesh and played the first two matches before succumbing to injury.

Rahat Ali is a bowler who possesses both swing and pace and Pakistan will be hoping that he can become a mainstay of the team in the next few years.
