Tanvir Ahmed is a right-arm fast-medium bowler who played five Tests, two one-day internationals and one T20 for Pakistan between 2010 and 2013
Name: Tanvir Ahmed
Born in Kuwait, Tanvir Ahmed is a right-arm fast-medium bowler who, unusually for a Pakistani paceman, made his international debut at the relatively advanced age of 31 after a strong performance in the 2009-2010 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in which he took 85 wickets at an average of 17.12.
First selected for Pakistan's controversial tour of England in 2010, Ahmed did not end up playing a game after preference was shown for the pace of Wahab Riaz. He was selected for Pakistan's home series against South Africa later on that year, taking a wicket in his first over and overall had a memorable Test debut as he took 6 wickets in the first innings and scored 30 runs which helped Pakistan to avoid the follow-on. His impressive display of swing bowling on a placid UAE pitch ensured he earned him a call-up for the New Zealand tour in December 2010. He played two Tests - Hamilton and Wellington – taking eight wickets at 26.50.
In May 2011, he played one Test during Pakistan's tour of the West Indies. Coming in to bat with Pakistan on 187 for 7 in the first innings, he scored his maiden Test fifty and shared a 78-run stand with Saeed Ajmal for the last wicket, a match Pakistan went on to win. Ahmed last played a Test match against South Africa in February 2013.
Ahmed has also played a handful of limited overs games, against Ireland, the West Indies and New Zealand.
Tanvir has since not featured in any international games nor been selected. He is appearing on various TV shows as a guest analyst and provides expert opinion on the game.
