Usman Salahuddin is a right-handed middle order batsmen from Lahore who made a fantastic start to his first class cricketing career. He racking up 5 hundreds and eight fifites from his first 24 matches, making the headlines for playing a match-winning 56 not out in the One Day National Cup Division 2 final in 2013, hitting a four off the penultimate ball of the game to seal a memorable victory for the Lahore Eagles.

Such performances were hard to ignore and he was soon drafted in as a squad member to the Pakistan ODI and Twenty20 squad for the tour of the 2013 Caribbean as Pakistan selectors looked towards the future after the 2011 World Cup campaign. With senior players being replaced, much faith placed upon young players who had been performing well in the Pakistani domestic circuit.  Usman played two ODIs in that series but failed to impress selectors, scoring only 13 in two innings.

His failure at international level had an effect on his domestic form as well and Usman had consecutive poor seasons after his return to domestic cricket. as he made the switch from regional to departmental cricket in the same time period as well.

Usman Salahuddin made a welcome return to form in the 2014/15 season and scored crucial runs at First Class level. As a result he was selected for the A tour to Sri Lanka in May 2015 and scored 86 and 36 in the two innings he batted in. However he still has problems in mantaining consistency in the shorter forms of the game and a recall to the national side does not look imminent.

The leap from domestic to international cricket is a daunting one, and many a player have faltered and not been able to make that adjustment. There are high hopes that Usman will be able to cope up with the rigors of top-level cricket, especially as Pakistan's look to build their middle order for the future especially in lieu of the impending retirements of Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq.
