Left-handed Sami Aslam made his debut for Pakistan in the ill fated ODI series in Bangladesh after World Cup 2015. In his debut match he showed good composure to score 45 and was subsequently selected for the Pakistan test team in the subsequent series. However he could only score 47 runs over the course of 3 innings in the 2 test match series and was dropped for the home series against Zimbabwe.

Name: Sami Aslam
Birth date: 1995-12-12
Hometown: Lahore, Punjab
Teams: Pakistan, National Bank of Pakistan, Lahore Eagles, Pakistan U-19 Team

At a very young age, left-handed Sami Aslam was already marked as a potential future opener for Pakistan. A stellar performance in the 2014U19 Asia Cup affirmed these suggestions, as he became the highest runscorer in U19 ODIs, going past Quinton de Kock's record of 1409 runs.

Sami’s first taste of regional cricket came in 2009 when he played for NCA Colts in a domestic U19 tournament. In that season he finished third highest run scorer in Pakistan at under 19 level. That was an under 19 World Cup year but was not considered due to his age and was told that he would be looked at for future tours. He has shown that he can also perform in the longer form of the game, scoring over 400 runs in 6 games (including an innings of 170) in 3-day cricket for Lahore under 19s. Sami made his debut for the senior Lahore Eagles team in the national one-day cup in February 2012 and made 125 runs in 4 innings including a highest score of 73.

Good domestic performances coupled with his obvious talent meant that Sami Aslam was called to the side in the tour of Bangladesh in 2015 in the aftermatch of the 2015 World Cup. The left handed 19 year old had a good debut in the third match of the ODI series as he scored a decent innings of 45 at a good sttrike rate. Subsequently he was called upto the Test squad and made his debut in the series which followed. However Sami failed to show his talent in the two tests against Bangladesh and managed to score only 47 runs in three innings as Pakistan won the series 1-0. This resulted in not getting a chance to play in the home series against Zimbabwe and at this point Sami needs to show his obvious talent through performing in domestic cricket to earn a recall.

Sami’s father played for State Bank of Pakistan, and it was because of him that Sami started playing cricket. His age means that he constantly has to balance his cricket training with education at GC University. His cricketing hero is Saeed Anwar, and he is also a fan of Suresh Raina.
