I caught up again with Yasir earlier today by phone and here's what he had to say :-
Sussex
He's really looking forward to going back to the County where he made a real name for himself. Yasir said that he has been recommended once again to the County by Mustaq Ahmed and Rana Naved and had no hesitation in signing a deal with them. He really enjoyed his first spell at Sussex and he enjoyed a successful personal season as well as the team lifting 2 trophies including the County Championship.
Yasir added that he has always had a very good relationship with the Sussex players and staff and still has many friends there. He's really looking forward to a successful season for Sussex and will be there for the whole summer apart from a couple of weeks when he's at the IPL.
The IPL
The deal has all been signed off for him joining the Kolkata Knight Riders and he's really looking forward to taking part in a form of cricket that he really enjoys. Yasir added that he sees no reason why the IPL should not go ahead despite the Mumbai attacks.
Pakistan versus India
Yasir said that he really hopes that the Indians tour Pakistan as wherever possible Boards should not let the cricket be disrupted. If the cricket occurs it will also take people's minds off other issues.
The Visa Issue for the Canada Tournament
Yasir stated that there was no Visa issue and the reports that were made in the press were incorrect. The PCB didnt even ask him for his passport so how could they say that there were problems with his Visa.
The Forthcoming Pentangular Series
Yasir confirmed that he will be playing for Federal Areas once again in the tournament that starts on 15th December. He stated that their bowling attack is a very balanced one with Shoaib Akhtar who is also captaining the side, Rao Ifthikar, Sohail Tanvir and Saeed Ajmal also in the squad.
Non Selection
Yasir sounded disappointed that he continues to miss out on selection in the Pakistan team despite performing well on a regular basis in all versions of the game and despite maintaining form and fitness throughout the domestic and county seasons.
He wished the PakPassion members all the best and hopefully we'll catch up with Yasir again soon.
I must add, Yasir is a top guy. Really friendly, down to earth, humble and a real pleasure to talk to. One can only wish gentlemen like him the very utmost success.
