As reported last week by PakPassion.net Sohail Tanvir’s County deal at Surrey has stalled before it even started. Today PakPassion has learnt of a further development in this saga.

Speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net today, Nathan Ross of Surrey’s media department stated that Tanvir who was due to start playing for the South London based County side from early August till the end of the season will not be playing for Surrey at all this season.

There was confusion surrounding Sohail Tanvir and his possible availability for Surrey later this season once his immigration paperwork had been sorted out, but this has now been put to bed by Surrey.

Ross stated “Sohail Tanvir will not be playing for Surrey this season and we are looking elsewhere for an overseas signing. We specified to our agency the type of player we were looking for once we had been made aware that Andre Nel would not play again this season due to injury, and the agency came back with a recommendation for Tanvir”.

Ross continued “we instructed the agency to carry out all the usual tasks required when making an overseas signing and we were confident that Tanvir would be playing for us shortly after his arrival in the UK. He actually arrived at Heathrow Airport on 31st July and was refused entry and turned back by immigration officials at the airport.

Ross further added “The immigration documentation required to play as a county player is entirely different to that which is required to play as an international player and perhaps Sohail and his advisors overlooked this fact”.

This is another blow for Sohail Tanvir who has struggled for form of late. He had limited opportunities in the United Arab Emirates against Australia in a one day series and looked badly out of form in the Twenty/20 World Cup where he was dropped from the Pakistan team after a string of below par performances.

With young left arm pace bowler Mohammad Aamer blossoming with literally every performance, Sohail Tanvir faces a stern challenge to get back into the Pakistan team.
