Dear Members and Guests

The PakPassion team are delighted to welcome you back to our forums.

You will have noticed that we have re-launched the forums with a new software that we feel will provide our members with a much better all-round experience.

As with any upgrade, it will take a bit of time to get used to and there may be some issues that will need correcting. We have set up this thread

for you to report any issues that need looking into by our technicians or if you have any suggestions regarding the design and the layout of the forums.

We thank you for your patience whilst the forums were not available, but as you can imagine, a project like this takes a lot of planning, organising and hard work.

So, welcome back and happy posting!

Pakistan take a winning start to the 4 match ODI series with a six wicket victory over England

By PakPassion.net Staff (11th November, 2015)

Result: Pakistan won by 6 wickets (with 38 balls remaining) - England 216 (49.4 ov), Pakistan 217/4 (43.4 ov)

Toss: England won the toss and elected to bat

Teams:

Pakistan : Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik, Bilal Asif, Sarfraz Ahmed, Anwar Ali, Wahab Riaz, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Irfan

England : Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, James Taylor, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, David Willey, Reece Topley

England Innings: A day which saw the announcement of Younis Khan's ODI retirement overshadow the start of the ODI Series was made more interesting by the shocking start to England inning as were reduced to 3-14 in just 3.1 overs as Roy, Hale and Root were removed by before Captain Morgan and Taylor provide respite with a stabilizing 133 run partnership. Once Shoaib Malik broke the partnership by removing Morgan on a handy 76, the floodgates opened again with England losing Buttler, Taylor, Moin and Adil Rashid falling in quick succession. In the end Woakes provided some respectability to the England score with a 33 to his name.

For Pakistan an excellent overall bowling and fielding performance as they never allowed England batsmen to settle in, with Mohamnmad Irfan ending up as the top wicket-taker with 3/35 in his 10 overs; England ending up on 216 (49.4 ov).

Fall of wickets:

1-0 (Roy, 0.2 ov),
2-7 (Root, 1.5 ov),
3-14 (Hales, 3.1 ov),
4-147 (Morgan, 30.3 ov),
5-148 (Buttler, 30.6 ov),
6-157 (Taylor, 34.1 ov),
7-161 (Ali, 35.4 ov),
8-180 (Rashid, 40.3 ov),
9-213 (Willey, 48.3 ov),
10-216 (Woakes, 49.4 ov)

Pakistan Innings: Pakistan had a small total to chase on a pitch which many would have regarded as a 280+ pitch. It was therefore also a shock to Pakistan's system as they quickly lost both openers, Azhar and Bilal, for a mere 15 on the board. That brought in the man of the hour/day, Younis Khan to the crease for the final time in ODIs for Pakistan but he did not last long and was soon walking back on an unimpressive 9. The end of an illustrious ODI career in a foreign land - sad to see that happen.

Malik was next to depart for a well made 26 - a soft dismissal but his fall brought in a confident Babar Azam at the crease. With Mohammad Hafeez (102*) in supreme form as he has been for the whole of the series, and Babar Azam (62*) looking like an excellent prospect for Pakistan, the two batsmen combined in a 106 run partnership to make easy work of the England total, finishing the task in overs and with six wickets in hand.

Fall of wickets:

1-12 (Azhar Ali, 1.5 ov),
2-15 (Bilal Asif, 3.2 ov),
3-41 (Younis Khan, 9.5 ov)
4-111 (Shoaib Malik, 24.2 ov)

Summary: A day of mixed emotions for Pakistan. Younis Khan's sudden announcement to retire from ODIs was the somber backdrop of this match and his less than satisfactory 9 runs did not improve things further. However, the performance of the Pakistan bowling attack and Mohammad Hafeez's brilliance and Babar Azam's confidence were just the push that Pakistan needed to kick-off this ODI series.
