Sarfraz Ahmed : A brilliant tactician?

Since the U19 days, he's known to be a brilliant tactician, having one of the best cricketing minds in Pakistan.

He has won us one U19 world cup with his captaincy.

And today in the inaugrual match of PSL, his field placings and bowler selections have been brilliant.

Completely stranded Islamabad United, even though I'm supporting United.

At the end of a stressful, depressing day, a dose of cricket is what can cheer us up.

    I wouldn't mind him.

Knows how to lead and captain a team.

Brilliant field placings, got probably the best batsman in IU. Amin caught at point.

    He's already VC in ODIs.

I don't want Azhar to go yet, just saying Sarfraz would've been a very good choice.

Azhar needs time to settle, so we'll see how he fares.

    I forgot Babar Azam.

    Amin is 2nd best.

Not counting Misbah, he's an intitute in himself. Best T20 hitter.

So far so good Sarfraz. Interesting field changes and the right bowler at the right time.

Islamabad under a lot of pressure.

Another similarity between him and Miandad. @Mamoon has something to say about this I'm sure.

Umar Amin is also a top order batsman according to him. Well he semi-opened today.

ODI's has become more tactical than ever. Kamran Akmal will not be expected to find tactical solutions to problems. He only has 'hoick it down to deep point' mode and 'apology' mode for dropped catches.

Did I mention Akmals name. Sarfraz is just not good enough to be in the ODI team unless opposition is playing 4 spinners or medium pacers

Don't want to take any credit away from Sarf but from what i noticed KP was also doing the field placement in this match just like he was doing in BBL.

Yea lets just play without a wicket keeper. Play a batsman who can keep, like Junior akmal, oh wait remember 2015 word cup?

Other options for wicket keeping are Mohammad Rizwan, but he is basically a tailender parading as a batsman.

No, PCB will nominate somebody who is not even in the team as the Captain when Misbah retires. If not then then Ramiz has already threatened to jump into Ravi if he lives to see the day when Sarfaraz is made the captian.

keepers always do that, look at who's setting the field, whose talking to the bowlers, its KP

Sarfraz will obviously learn from this, i already think he is a good captain, this will make him better

How about this novel and most brilliant idea that I am sure nobody has ever been able to think of so far...

Why doesn't Misbah ever come 1 or 2 down to prevent any collapse from happening in the first place?????

In that case there won't be any need for rescue 1122.

I agree that newbies need time to settle. But why does the PCB give that time to newbies who look like they will never be very good.

What about Azhar suggests that he will become a good captain, let alone decent ODI batsman? Sarfraz is certainly doing better with the bat recently.

I don't know how much credit Sarfraz deserves considering KP was extremely involved in leading.

i liked the thing when wright had taken away the game after 2nd wicket he could have easily come and scored some runs as situation was very easy but instead he sent Nawaz . good way of giving confidence to upcoming players
also his energy and regular communicating with bowlers is good to see

    +1

It was as if KP was the captain.

One thing in particular i got immensely impressed with was that whenever the first 4-5 balls of the over went for just 5-6 runs or less ,the fielders would drop to the boundary ropes to prevent the last ball from going to the boundary even if a single is conceded. Not sure whose idea it was but it was great to see that brains are being used on the field.

So what about KP then? He's flexible with his citizenship isn't he?

Sarfraz Ahmed's captaincy performance with the Quetta Gladiators

    Too premature to say.

But some brilliant field placements and choice of bowlers. Alan Wilkins paid complements to his captaincy too.

A worthy candidate if Azhar Ali fails (providing, he hasn't failed already).

    Discuss.

Sarfraz is going to benefit immensely from KP running the show for the team. It was really good seeing how KP was changing the field and working closely with bowlers.

Both the fielders and bowlers responded to him very well and results are showing that.

lol brilliant tactician. Bet if he can solve 2+2 he'll be considered a brilliant mathematician as well.

His glory year was 2014 to early 2015. Things will go back to normal now, he was never in it for the long haul.

you nailed it....as I pointed out in my first post that OP created this thread right around 5 over mark in the game. If you take some time to read some other posts from OP you will know exactly what he was trying to do here.

Check out how Mohammad Nawaz reacts on getting these two wickets.
    https://youtu.be/hDpUbWhlkVU?t=113
    https://youtu.be/hDpUbWhlkVU?t=127

He runs straight to guy who is actually the tactician on the field, the one who is responsible for field placements, interacting with bowlers, encouraging them on and telling them where to bowl to each batsman. Who the team is looking up towards as the leader of the team.

But why would @Hawkeye admit that it is KP that is calling the shots when he can credit all of it to sarfraz?

Lol dude, was gonna post smth about KP doing the brunt of the work but glad you said it. Every time Quetta Gladiators have decided to field, the camera moves to KP at least 5-6 times in the innings, waving his hands setting the fields, going up to the bowler, and changing the placements. You'd think KP was captaining this side tbh by watching a Gladiator game if you weren't told in advance that Sarfraz was captain.

Pretty sure KP was not there when he took Karachi Dolphins to the final of Haier T-20 last time and won us the under 19 world cup.

Anyhow as far as making as a player is concerned he is still making more runs then the other captaincy candidate Malik who is a rabbit under highlights so far against better opposition.

Disclaimer: I dont want the captain to change now give Azhar a few more series.

I can spot a few hardcore 'Hare Krishnas' and Kami fans here, who in their delusions see no one but KP doing all the field placement, bowler changes and shouting at fielders to go to certain positions.

You need to start watching the actual games, and preferably take off those glasses where you see Sarfraz getting swapped with KP everywhere on the field.

By far he's been the best captain on the show. Very proactive and guiding everyone from behind the stumps. Was a bad day at the office for fans though, yesterday.

Rameez was quite impressed at the presentation ceremony with his captaincy.

Guess Quetta is winning the tournament if Misbah doesn't come back strongly. Was horrible in the first ISLU match.

At the end of a stressful, depressing day, a dose of cricket is what can cheer us up.

Sarfraz should ask malik the greatest brain in Pakistan cricket for advice..forget kp etc..

Kp wasn't in total control. He was giving advice which the captain allowed him to do. Most of the time Sarfraz was the one who set things up. I've always rated him.
