Would Bilbao Win The Prem?

I know this might sound knee-jerk but having watched them in a couple of games in La Liga, They are a quality outfit and they played Spurs in a pre-season friendly and completely outplayed Tottenham and they were a week behind in Pre Season fitness.

They are now outplaying the champions of Europe in there own back yard.

Javi Martinez is as good as any CB in the world and Llorente is certainly one of the best strikers in the world.

Pakfan2010's done it again.

Let me put it simply:

- Outplaying Tottenham isn't hard. 2 sides have done it within 2 weeks.
- United have been poor at home in Europe this season, drawing against Basle, Benefica and losing to Ajax. Does that mean these 3 teams could win the prem?

He plays CB for Bilbao now and that's his regular position.

I can't edit my post and I didn't write champions of europe.

Oh you are a complete useless tool in the box.

I watch La Liga on a much more regular basis than you do and I can quite safetly say he is a box to box midfielder who is primarily a physical defensive midfield player with lots of vision and creativity...

Hes versatile, no doubt bout that but he hardly is used as a midfielder these days, thats his position, agreed, and thats how he should be used but he is part of the defensive line every now and then so going to agree with Pakfan and also agree with what he said bout Martinez' barca and spain connection.

Yes, He is naturally a CDM but he is playing CB for Bilbao under the new coach.

He has more chance getting into Spain/Barcelona's side as a CB so I reckon he will stay there.

Putting Martinez as CB is like putting Roy Keane/Viera at CB.

Epic waste of his talents...

Martinez is nothing like Keane or Viera.

He is more like Pique but with more speed and agility.

Not sure El Loco has that many options for centre halves so he's being played there, which isn't all that bad for Athletic as it's meant that Iturraspe fellow's having quite the emergence.

Pakfan you really do make me laugh!

United have won 1 european home game this season, so bilbaos win wasnt a shock! Most european teams will fancy coming to OT and going away with something positive at the moment.

They did have some impressive players.

So why is he being compared to Patrick Viera and Roy Keane.

Because he is still primarily a CM! Get it through your skull.

The only reason that he is playing in CB right now and most of the season is because Amorbieta has been injured for most of it.

It's like busquets playing in CB last season with Mascherano sometimes, it not because they are CB's its because Pique/Puyol were injured.

Didn't play in the United game.

And San Jose has played awful recently, which is why Martinez has been shoved into the CB position.

errr where on earth do you pluck this info from?

Amorebieta has started 19 La Liga games, so he has failed to start in 6 matches

Last time I checked playing in 19 out of 25 matches is not regarded as being injured for most of it

When you make stuff up about football do you think others will just believe it? This is not the first time you have lied about football stats (see Messi V Ronaldo thread)

So what If they play in the same position?

They are completely different styles, Martinez is intelligent and intercepts passes.
While Viera and Keane opt for crunching tackles.

Err, no. Check ESPN football for his appearance stats. And its a mixture of him not playing and Jose being rather crap which has led to Martinez being deployed in central defense.

Show me a link which shows the stats you have found?

Like I said he has started 19 League Games, came on as a sub in another, so therefore he missed 5 League matches

You have moved the goalposts numerous times, the point isn't about what is Martinez's natural position BUT rather where he has largely played this season and that has been at centre back

I have just checked his stats and yes he has made 19 appearances. Which means he has played most of this season.......
