Pakistan Skipper Optimistic Of Reaching The ICC World Twenty20 Semi-Finals

Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik is optimistic that his team has the potential to reach the semi-finals of ICC World Twenty20 in September.

“If the bowlers perform to their potential then we have a bright chance to reach the semis,” Malik said on Sunday.

"The Pakistan team has the world's best all-rounders and top-ranked fast bowlers, and the team is fully capable of getting a place among the four top teams in the Twenty20 World Cup,” the 25-year-old skipper, was quoted as saying to Geo News.

"However, the bowlers' role may be important in Pakistan's success.Pakistan has world-class bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Asif, Umar Gul and Rao Iftikhar Anjum, who will play an important role in getting success for the team," Malik opined.

I don't know what Malik means by, "If the bowlers perform to their potential". What about the batsmen? Are they surefire already?

ive have respect for malik but he jsut said something stupid

pakistan dont have the world best alrounders, south africa does, pollock and kallis,

afridi the one hit wonder is ranked 7th and malik is ranked 9th.

http://www.lgiccrankings.com/odi/all...r/rankings.php

both are ranked below gayle and sanath.

oh yeah afrdi tops pakistans list as a bowler at 17.

It all goes down to luck, In 20 overs people with limited ability can also show flashes of brilliance hence its about who is having a good day at the office.
Bangladesh has always surprised opponents in 50 over cricket (shorter version) but when it comes to 5 days of consistencey, they cannot mantain the intensity.
Imagine Ashraful, Tamim getting in for 15 overs out of 20 and their left armers bowling a few tight overs, like that they can compete with any test playing nation in teh upcoming T20 WC.

We DON'T have best all-rounders.

Afridi is box-office but unpredictable when batting.

Razzaq is hit or miss with the bat and a poor bowler.

Malik is a decent batsmen, nothing really more, and is a very average bowler.

Compare this to when Razzaq and Afridi were performing with bat and ball e.g. Aus 2004/5 VB series and numerous times v India where Malik performed very well.

Saying that tho, we can win it if these guys work on their weaknesses.

No need to make predictions. Just go out and play, approaching each game afresh and with intensity. The results will take care of themselves.

Not everything should be based on the LG ICC rankings - they mean something, but they are not everything. For Twenty20's, Pakistan has a very good team but it would be foolish to say we will win it because Twenty20's are so unpredictable. Anything can happen.

Why just semi-finals? Why not thinking of winning the Championship!

If pakistan want to reach the latter stages of the tourney then the batting has to fire. With our line i wont be shocked if we got rolled over in 20 overs against some sides!

~Bah some people are so stupid. Obviously Malik is trying to gear up his team, give them some confidence going into this tournament. We may not have the best allrounders, but ours is definantly the most exciting.

20/20 should suit the pakistani's more than the other 3 asian counterparts.
