Batting lower down the order is suiting him as Australia are finding it harder to bowl bouncers at him. In the 40-50 over mark the field is set for pitched up bowling. Pitched up bowling suits Afridi better than short balls.
Also not too many in the slip area so you can get away with an edge. |

I think they probably should try more short picthed balls.
The thing is when you bowl short, the whole field opens up, the ball can go anywhere. If you pitch it up, it is likely to go in front of square unless it is edged or unless the batsman improvises. Therefore it is easier to set a defensive field - which is what is mainly in place between 40-50 over mark - when the bowler pitches it up. When the bowler pitches short much harder to get a decent field in place between 40-50 overs because the ball can go anywhere. |
