What's with Southee throwing the ball?

He just hit a Hafeez with a full fleshed throw!

NZ commentator is saying "it's just out of frustration"

Although Southee was wrong Hafeez was probably given a talking to by the umpire for waving the bat in Southee's face.

Umpire could have perhaps stepped in and had a word with both bowlers. Storm in a teamcup

Southee talking to Hafeez, Hafeez naturally responded, he was holding the bat since he was batting, something I'm not sure Tucker realized, and it was natural that, when talking and raising his hand, he would raise the bat as well. What did Hafeez do wrong there, I'd like to know?
Its not like Haddin raising his bat at Benn in an aggressive manner, and that too in a matter which didn't concern him.

If anything this incident proves that the umpires are more biased than incompetent.

Yesterday Adnan Akmal got lectured for celebrating a wicket and today it's Hafeez for getting hit and elbowed by Southee.

Oh the decisions column happens to be 6-2 in favor of NZ coincidentally.

Watching the game on sky sports stream and at the break Jeremy Coney had a good solution - simply give the umpires the authority to whip out a red card and tell the bowler he can't bowl again.

The Pakistani bowlers really should hammer Southee with some fast short pitch bowling in the ODIs. We all know whites will always get away with these sort of actions, so the best way to response is for Pakistan to take it upon themselves and hammer away at this guy. If a sub continent player throw a ball intentionally at a batsman the uproar would be significant and the bowler would probably get suspended. The double standard really pisses me off when it comes to the umpires and match referees.

Yeah well Southee walked up to him and had his elbow against him, that's why he raised the bat to tell him to back off.

It's just Southee trying to be The Kiwi equivalent of rotlu Broad, rehne do bache ko....

Pathetic stuff from Southee. And from the umpires, in particular Harper. No surprise there, then.

Vettori the Cowardly Whiner
leading by example, as always.

I'm not one to criticise umpires and hardly ever impugn their or anyone else's motives, but this was shocking.

Very well done to for standing up for what's right - he was top class in the commentary box today!

Absolutely disgraceful stuff from Southee.

He is at best an average cricketer who is lucky that he was born in New Zealand, as I don't think he'd make into too many other starting lineups around the world.

He threw the ball intentionally at Hafeez and then didnt do what most cricketers would have done which is to apologise to the batsman.

Southee was lucky that Hafeez didnt wrap his bat around Southee's neck.

To be honest its a recent trend of so called wanabe fast bowlers, Broad, Southee to throw balls at batsmen in a childish fit of fustration. I really wish Hafeez had stayed in longer and really hammered southee around the park!

Some people on here, I won't name them, but you know who you are, seem to think it's passion and fine. But when someone like Broad hits and injures our asylum seeker friend, it thought to be out of "frustration". When someone like Southee does the same, and yet again its our Wicketkeeper, its said to be fine because its minor or just "frustration"

Now I don't mind Passion and Enthusiasm, but when it leads to injures (former) and many other indiscretions just based on Broad's character, then its unacceptable. Regarding Southee, It wasn't once but twice he did this, both times when NZ were struggling to take wickets. Btw neither of the throws were because a runout chance was to be had, it was because, unfortunately some people are seen as untouchable.

I can honestly see a batsmen saying enough is enough and throw the willow at the bowler, if that happens again.

PCB should lodge a strong complaint against it and build their case on the biased views taken by the umpires . Let the board know that although we are not the favoured team yet however Pakistan is no easy PUSH OVER either and will speak out louder than loud when they're humble players are being taken for a ride . This Is nonsense to say the least.

Southee clearly overstepped the mark when he deliberately threw the ball at Hafeez.

I like to see a bit of sledging, banter and verbals because it adds excitement and flavour, makes the game fun to watch.

But throwing a rock at a man is physical assault. It's going too far.

Really think they should have lodges an appeal wit the match referee. Southee threw the ball at his leg, umpire didnt say anything. He came up and shoved an elbow at his side, and started annoying hafeez and when hafeez replied umpire harper gave him a talking. Totally unfair, by the umpire. As punishment i hope he gets a hundred thrashings in the upcoming ODIs.

This is nothing new for Pak batsmen. Harmisson to Inzy and Broad to Haider.

A new law needs to be bought in for me. Any bowler throwing the ball back to the stumps/keeper which hits the batsmen should be banned for 2 games and 4 runs given to the batsmen.
