South Africa Proves the Importance of Think Tank
What a masterstroke to open with Peterson; Pietersen struggles against left arm spinners. Someone in their think tank knew that. They decided to formulate a plan. They acted upon it.
I've always felt that ever since Wasim Akram left we've been lacking tactically. Waqar is not a tactician, neither is Afridi. I notice a bunch of extra support guys are in the squad but I'm not sure if they have a laptop thats being put to work. We should have an analyst who should tip our vastly talented but ill organized team. Sehwag and Sachin dont like incoming balls. Styris tends to stay on backfoot early in his innings. M. Hussey is LBW candidate. The difference it makes is devastating to the other team. Just look at how cheaply they got Pietersen today while Strauss also fell as a bonus. If nothing else, PP should set up a thread before Pakistan's each match, where armchair experts at PP could list their observations of opposition's players. Then Saj could forward the summary to Waqar to look at. The fan-base's knowledge should be put in use for our team. |

Excellent thread, totally agree with you. I remember the test series when pak came to SA last & they showed us how they targetted Farhat with the use of their laptops. When they see a player is in form they do target that player. They go back to all that players past dismissals & work on his weakness. They really study that person & refrain from bowling in areas of his strength. They also do this for the bowlers. I was really impressed with pak team which won the t20wc in England & felt that they used tactics to a certain extent. Mohammed Aamir i felt was good at it & would use it alot

Does anyone need to plan Farhat's dismissal?
It happens, just like that. Always. |

peterson does not struggle with slow left arm spinners. He always stands outside the crease and often comes down the track to negate swing. That is why they opened with a slow bowler so that keeper could stand up.

Good batsmen counter such tactics.. They don't commit same mistake over and over.. Last edited by cricketfan2010; 6th March 2011 at 11:13. |

The think tank couldn't make up for the age old choking though...
