Has Pakistan ever beaten South Africa in a World Cup?

Like the title, has Pakistan ever won against S.A in a world cup?

Played 3 lost 3.

1992 should've been a win but for the stupid rain rule.

1996 they were a better side

1999 was a great contest. Klusener edged it for them.

we lost to them in 1996 ...it was a very important game as because of that loss we ended up second in our group and faced India in quarters!

agreed, we would have beaten them if not for rain in 1992.

1996 - our team politics also played its part. Remember RAT was in the team and also Wasim and Waqar together..

1999 - we never wanted to win that game as we only needed to win a game and we had zimbabwe to play against and to progress to semis as top team.

I wouldn't look to much about how we have done against then in worldcups but instead just look back to the recent series in the UAE. The matches ( especially 2nd, 3rd and the 4th) were very close and in the end SA edged it to win the series 3-2. On any day, we can beat them.

Wouldn't say that. We were actually in control for much of their run chase. Down the stretch they needed something like 45 off 30 with 3 wickets left, and Klusener helped them do it in 4 overs.

Very tight, exciting game.

1992 they had a serious chance, they were denied by a terrible rain rule. They would have had a real chance at winning the final, England were toothless.

In 92 i never felt we were going to beat them, they had excellent bowlers and fielders. The rain was just an excuse, in 96, We got hammered but in 99 we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, that was the match when i think Shep gave Cronje not out and Akram was heard by me over the stump micrphone to say something like this old guy won`t give any out but with more punjabi spice, if you know what i mean.

How so?

Pak was chasing 212 in that game in 1992, and we were 135/2 after 30 overs - meaning we needed just 77 in the remaining 20 overs @3.85 RPO, with 8 wickets in hand and all our middle-order power-houses intact!

Then it rained and those idiotic rain rules meant that the target was changed drastically - we were told to chase 194 in 36 overs!! So the runs Target decreased by a mere 18 runs but a staggering 14 overs were taken away from us!

We still came mighty close.

They would've had to get to the final first. 22 runs off 13 balls was never going to be easy.

Actually rain stopped play when we were 74/2 in 22. Asking rate was almost 5. Then the rain came and they revised it to 194 in 36, which meant 120 in 14 overs at over 8.5.

But yeah, @Masterji, overall point being we went from a challenging but very doable asking rate to an almost impossible one. (Not that dissimilar to the situation South Africa found themselves in towards the end of the semi-final against England.)

1999 how the game which seemed easily in our bag was taken away fro the jaws of victory of Pakistan by Klusener.

On the topic, no I don't think so and NO cartoon network format T20 does not count.

Nope we have not from my viewing. I started watching as a 7 year old in 1992 and here are my recollections (50 overs)

1992: THAT runout of Inzamam by Rhodes. Pakistan get screwed by a rain rule that gets SA in the semis
1996: haven't seen this match but a very strong Pak side was easily defeated by SA
1999: SA are 58-5 chasing 220-odd at Trent Bridge v Wasim, Shoaib, Razzaq, Mahmood and Saqlain. Klusener blasts out bowlers to all parts, Boucher sweeps Saaqy for 6 and to top it off, Klusener is dropped by Anwar trying to hit a 6 off a doosra, and SA run 2 off the last ball of the 49th over to win it. the match is famous for Moin and Klusener's heroics with the bat. Probably the best of the three games between the 2 best sides in the tournament in my opinion
