What do you consider Pakistan's greatest achievement in the 90's besides the WC ?

Is it the back to back series victories against Eng in there own backyard ?

The Asian Test Championship Victory ?

Two Sahara Cup wins against arch rivals India ?

3-0 Trashing of the Windies in 1997 ?

World Series win in Aus in early 1997 ?

Or add your own..

with respect to the victories against the indians they were obviously great but to b honest they never had a chance , barring the little guy who got pwned by akhtar in the asian test championship match the indian team of the time was no better than a local club team frm lahore we had so much talent back than heck even a guy like mohammad akram was 10 times better than prasad and he cudnt get into the pak side of the time .
the victories u mentioned i dont think ill ever forget the world series win in australia , and those two missiles in culcutta that announced the arrival of my fav player

Looking back at the 90's, I have a major regret that we had a chance to win two back to back test series against South Africa within a very short span but we blew away both opportunities.

I remember watching both the test series very eagerly as a 8/9 year old. The first series was at home in late 1997, ( when Azhar Mahmood scored a century on debut ) and after two drawn matches, Pakistan had a great chance to win the series chasing just 130 or 140 odd , I think but thanks to a charecteristic batting collapse we couldn't and hence lost the series.

Then was the away test series in Feb/March 1998, IIRC. The first match was a draw and Pakistan won the second test. Azhar scored another 100, Shoaib took his maiden 5-fer ( what a performance it was, youtube it all you Akhtar fans ) and Mushtaq took quite a few wickets in this match too. Heading into the third match, we had a healthy 1-0 lead but South Africa but Fanie De Villiers completely blew us away in the second innings. So , a series we should have won ended in a draw.

Trashing england in england in 1992 and 1996 in test series

Drawing 1-1 away to South Africa in very tough series.

Also winning ODI series in Australia (Beating W.I 2-0 in finals) with a young and talented team.

Not sure about greatest but the most amazing achievement in the 90s was their inability, with the superb team (especially the bowling) they had, to become the best team in the world.

Dravid did better in the 00s but his average in the 90s was still just marginally below 50. In the case of Ganguly, his performance in the 90s seemed to be better than his performances in the noughties. Regarding Laxman, spot on.

Agreed. That 1999 world cup Final still haunts me and is probably my earliest cricket memory.

Was very young during the 90's so have only heard stories and read reports but our team seemed fantastic.

1999 world cup got me into cricket and we should have won.

Dravid may have had a good avg in the 90's but the plain fact was he had a horrible record vs Aus and Wasim & Co made him look like a child in 98... Higher the quality of bowlers Dravid faced the worst he performed in the 90's...

Really? Sounds like a massive generalisation to me. Didn't he do well against Ambrose and Walsh and Bishop and Rose in the Windies - think he averaged in the 70s? And against a rampaging Donald in Sith Effrica - he averaged 55?

Yep, Dravid did very well in those 2 series. In SA however, he was excellent (148 & 81) in the 3rd test at Jo'burg not much hot in the other 2.

Aus though was entirely different kettle of fish altogether. He was crap against them till he played THAT innings at Eden Gardens.

pak through out the 90's were awsome the 1999 world cup was great baring some the final and bangladesh,,,, through out the 90's pak had the team to beat anyone, but Pak also had a captain called wasim who was known for match fixing ..

many series away were drawn or lost because of infighting,,, s/a 1998 come to mind, nz in 2000, and many other series,,
