Imran Nazir Eyes Return in T20 World Cup Team

The neglected hard-hitting opening batsman Imran Nazir has vowed to pave his way back into the national fold for the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 to be held in Sri Lanka in September this year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selectors recently ignored Imran Nazir for the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka but the aggressive opening batsman refrained from showing his aggression in the media and resorted to showing it in the field. Talking exclusively with sportsencounter.com on Friday, Imran Nazir, who always a crowd’s favorite for his bang-bang show with the bat, said that his focus is on returning into the national cricket team for the Twenty20 World Cup. Imran Nazir, who is out of favors of the PCB selectors since February 2010, further stated: “I don’t lose my confidence and never let disappointment to ruin my mind because I know my hard work will pay the dividends at some stage.”

“Nowadays, I am completely focusing on keeping my fitness and form to maintain my challenge for a place in the national cricket team for the T20 World Cup,” he said and added: “My target is to represent Pakistan in the ICC World T20 and I am sure the way I’m working hard I will be able to meet my target.” It is important to mention here that the last time when Pakistan won a Twenty20 International match on Sri Lankan soil was in 2010 when Imran Nazir had blasted 40 runs in a quick time to help Pakistan cross the line.“Yeah I remember that match. We lost Kamran Akmal’s wicket early in the innings but I didn’t take any pressure and expressed my true cricketing color. We eventually scored 172 runs,” Imran Nazir recalled.

Wishing good luck to Pakistan cricket team, Imran Nazir stated: “Now Pakistani team is once again going to play a T20 series against the Islanders on their soil and I sincerely hope that our team will play attacking cricket and beat them on their home ground.” Imran Nazir was of the view that no one is favorites in the shortest format of cricket, but his well wishes are always with Pakistani team. “T20 cricket is all about calculations. I am sure our team is doing hard practice under the supervision of Dav Whatmore. They are also playing some practice matches while on the other hand most of the Sri Lankan cricketers are plying in Indian Primer League (IPL) so they are also in a good shape. I’m sure it would be a very tough battle,” Imran concluded.

hafeez is the captain and nasir jamshed and ahmed shazad are both better than him... Unless we suddenly lose 3 openers to injury, he doesn't have much of a chance.

Nasir Jamshed is already injured, Anyway Imran Nazir is a good choice for T20's, only T20's though.

He's only out for 4 weeks, not 4 months. And who would you drop to accommodate Imran nazir?

I am not saying he should be selected right away, maybe he can be in the reserves for T20's, in case Shehzad is not performing he should be drafted in.

Isn't he the same guy who somehow gave away 50 runs in an over in the Hong Kong Super Sixes while even an idiot would have managed to pitch the ball in line with the stumps? That event for me ruins his entire reputation because of alleged fixing? Though if he is clean, it's not like Ahmed Shahzad is actually always getting selected, he can get in

So now we should select players based on their Hong Kong Sixes performances, And anyways he was bowling and he's not a bowler.

His performances are great in Domestic T20's, in IPL he can be the next Gayle if included in the next edition

Not saying that, just saying the wides he bowled which went for 5 runs were suspicious and should have been investigated for potential fixing by

He should have been in the T20 side from the start actually. Electric fielder and a great batsman

I didn't watch the edition in which he played in, besides will someone really offer to fix a match in Hong Kong sixes??? It looks highly unlikely.

The adjective 'great' when applied before the word 'batsman' means extremely good. However, when used in a sentence such as, "Younis Khan is one of the greats," it means that we are comparing him with Anwar, Lara and co

We really need him for T20's but we also have to have Hafeez in the side. Shehzad is a very good T20 batsmen as is Nasir. Khalid Latif too.. problem!

The only solution I can see to this is putting one of them in the Middle Order

Let's say:
Hafeez, Shehzad, Nazir, Shafiq (Floater, comes in the case of a collapse), Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Hammad Azam, Sarfraz Ahmed, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Junaid Khan

This would be my T20 team

Even though Nazir is a more gunho batsman, an Afridi type, who could finish the match in 10 overs or get out making 2 or 3s in 5 consecutive innings, Nasir is a more solid option and he can hit them as well as anyone. Unlike Nazir who you feel can get out at any moment, Nasir looks like it would take something stupid from him or from his partner or some form of brilliance to get him out.

Cant see him being selected now. He has been in great form in the last two tournaments and yet been discarded in the format he excels in.

He should have been selected for the T20's against SL and deserved his place on merit.

It was now or never im afraid. The selectors are simply against him. They just Love Farhat and players like Malik. Even though they fail 50 games on the bounce. They just cant get enough of them.

Farhat just has the selectors mesmorized.

If he doesnt get selected for the WC T20 then it looks like I will be looking forward to the Champions league more so than the T20 WC
