Not sure why people are objecting to Afridi's anger. Its pretty manly to show anger, at time its what is needed and our team needs a danda. Imran Khan would have worse things to say to his players when they misfielded.

Pretty manly to show anger at the captain?

Yes imran may have said or done worse but thats because he wouldve been the captain, something afridi isnt

Afridi needs a reality check and needs to behave, he isnt the captain anymore

But behind the closed doors during team meetings, not on the field in the middle of a match.

But whom are we speaking to, and what is the purpose? When it comes to any issue related to Afridi, there can be only two camps, one Afridi haters, and other Afridi lovers, and nobody can be rational.

Ironically, I am neither a hater, nor lover.

Not sure why people are surprised. If you can chew on a ball on camera, curse your players obtuse in the field, cheat on the pitch, retire in the middle of a match, and punch a fan in public, then this is still elementary.

Woo hoo..
We got crystal ball gazers in here now.. Chamatkari baba Himalya ki choti se abhi abhi lautey lagtey hain.

Zara ye bhi batayein ki duniya bhar mein wo repeat offender ke naam se darz hain.. and somebody who ll never learn. And this is by a bunch of professionals who played the game in the past and present both. You really think a person like this has the attitude to be holding himself when he sees his bowling is leaking runs.. and with the gag order already in place for life outside the park??

There are far more passionate players who chat up with other players and go about perfecting the art by indulging in rigorous practice sessions with them. Afridi has been mentioned as somebody who is not interested in learning. And if you been reading up on him.. u ll know which person said this. His caring has been legendary all these years. Hoicking in time of crisis is the consistency he knows.

You missed the caring part.

Try not to take my post out of context.

You care, you are passionate, which is why you post on PP and argue day in day out. If you didn't care or were not passionate you wouldn't care what people would say about India.

Do you understand now?

Ok. I first read it here that Steven Waugh and MS Dhoni never cared, so hardly reacted.

So that implies that on that given day, only S.K Afridi cared out of the 11 Pak players?

And it also implies that, since S.K Afridi did not care about the matches in the past, he did not react/argue with his skipper in those matches.

And it also implies that, we should know that S.K Afridi only cares, when he argues with the skipper in the middle of a match. If he does not argue, it means he does not cares.

Thanks for enlightening us, JB.

No doubt Shahid has some passion and it comes out at times because he doesn’t have the mental capacity to control it like a normal person #bitesball #dancesonpitch

You can tell nowadays he gives it his all with the ball and in the field, however isn’t able to translate it to caring with the bat at all.

Selective caring? Selective passion?

Oh and not to forget how he so gloriously ran away from the test captaincy in the middle of a tour .

It’s what makes him such a loveable rouge though

I genuinely hope he donates his brain to science, maybe upon its dissection we can learn more about this curious creature.

Some people do not understand what it means to care more than others.

India vs England 2011 - India simply didn't care - hence the series whitewash.

England on the other hand, did care about the #1 Test rank hence handing India a series whitewash.

Other examples where passion can result in anger.

Quote:
No cricket fan as ever seen Monk-like Dravid lose his cool, but Vijeeta said that though only dropped catches upset him, he once got angry because the team lost badly. "Only once, I remember, he returned from a Test and said, 'I got a bit angry today. I lost my temper. Shouldn't have done that.' He wouldn't say more. Many months later, Viru (Sehwag) told me that he'd actually thrown a chair after a defeat to England in Mumbai. He'd thrown the chair, Viru said, not because the team had lost but because they had lost very badly."

Ah so it is selective passion when it suits self interest ;)

Passion to me is Asim Kamal playing with a broken hand, Freddie charging into bowl knowing the damage it is doing to his body. Steve Waugh playing with numerous injuries.

i.e Putting your self interest aside for the sake of the country.

If a player has no interest he will not perform.

Is Misbah passionate about T20s? Does he really care about T20s? Didn't he relinquish his T20 captaincy? Why? Because Misbah doesn't care about T20s.

These are also examples of passion but do not falsify the notion that passion can lead to anger, only supports it.

Ok. So since S.K cared a lot by cussing his fellow team mates and skipper in the middle of the match, why did he himself misfiled? Or he only cared when others commit mistakes? I know that all you'll come up is that "passion/care is not proportionate to performance but is to interest". Now if that's the yardstick, then from now onwards, all the players should start swearing at each other on the field at every possible occasion. But commit misfeilds and brain farts while performing. Because the people already know that they care, since they have reacted by abusing each other.

He did the right thing. He didn't care about Tests, wasn't passionate about Tests, so why should he play Tests if he is not interested?
Ok. But the point is that, why did he not make it obvious that he didn't care about tests, before accepting the captaincy? Or did he need a brain fart in the middle of a series to realize that he's not passionate about tests?

A boatman takes commuters on a boat to cross a river. In the middle of the river he realizes that he is'nt passionate about the boat ride. Should he abandon the boat along with passengers in the middle of the river? No. His duty is to reach the other shore, and then give up boat riding.

Nothing challenges the notion that passion can lead to anger. Discussing intelligence is different altogether.

No.

He was a shockingly poor T20 player and was understandably forced out.

Of course he exhibited some passion with his outburst. However why doesn't he show the same anger with his own failures with the bat?

Its quite selective isn't it?

That's what they say. He is poor in ODIs too, but he is still the ODI captain - because Misbah cares about ODI.

It’s not selective.

Afridi does show the same anger with the bat, only problem is with anger you lose control, Afridi has no control, this is why his swings and misses, this is his problem – lack of control and intelligence – but you cannot knock the guy for being passionate.

My friend, no one is questioning S.K's commitment/passion here. It's just that there is a place/time for confrontations. You cannot just go ballistic towards your team mates/skipper in the middle of a match.

Instead, you are defending his behavior by stating the reasons behind his outburst. The point here is that no one plays to lose. Everyone wants to win. But one cannot just let out one's grudge in the middle of a match.

Still, if people feel that he has done right, then so be it.

Nice mind reading skills bro. Misbah publicly came out and said he was disappointed with the fact he was axed. However he had the maturity to not kick up too much of a fuss and go down the usual Pakistani paths of temporary retirements when the captaincy was taken away from him .

Have you seen his interviews, where he grins about his batting, revels in his notoriety for playing recklessly?

He doesn't see to give a damn.

It is frustrating, I am not saying Afridi is perfect, far from it, but we are discussing how passion can lead to anger.

Mindset.

Management gave you time off today to 'sallybrate' your 16 odd years in international cricket and also your 16th birthday?

What an excuse. So from now on all players should apologise to Afridi immediately they misfield on his bowling and he wouldn't get angry and wouldn't show the outburst to his Captain. Like that would ever happen. Hothead is always a hothead. Doesn't matter if someone apologies or not.

Lol at the way this thread is going ... kinda expected tbh. Makes 2 misfields in a row and suddenly he's on an agenda against the team. Pathetic posts.

ofcourse he has the right because he has been a great fielder in his career and just because he has been not so good today does not mean, he can't mouth off to other players, that is the dumbest logic I have ever heard

Your criticism makes absolutely no sense ... Afridi can't yell at fielders because he makes the occasional error in the field ... Wasim/Waqar/Imran can abuse fielders as much as they want despite their own errors in the field because they're better players (has not been questioned). Strong logic is strong.

Just because imran wasim or waqar did it, it doesnt make it right

Afridi needs to keep his ego and brain in check How wouldve afridi liked it if he was lambasted on the field today because of his shoddy fielding?

but he made up for it with a brilliant run out, thing with afridi is when he has a bad day in the field which is not often he makes up for it in one way or another but with some other fielders it happens game after game

Except the difference is that Imran Khan was a fantastic all-rounder, both with bat and ball, an inspirational captain who led by example and arguably one of the greatest Pakistanis to be walking the Earth - whereas Shahid Afridi is a no-talent, hot-headed slogger.

So please don't compare the two and insult IK by putting him in the same bracket as Afridi.

And can the mods PLEASE put the term 'hater' into the swear filter. I cannot stand how the term 'hater' is bandied around to shut down any constructive debate of the man.

This is a cricket forum, not a teenage Justin Beiber fan site.

Alright guys you need to all take a chill pill. This is the first time i saw the video and believe its not as bad as people have made the whole deal out to be. This happens often on the field where 2 people have a difference of opinion.

I couldn't help but bump this thread. I finally got the chance to watch the highlights and surprise surprise. Afridi crying like a girl again where he'd bowl too short and it'll go for a single, not realising that it's his fault for not bowling according to the field. And in the field, the ball was only about a foot away from him, instead of diving, he didn't even react until it was 25 feet behind him... The less said about the batting the better... Even 10 runs from his unused bat would have been useful.

I think it's time he got a nice long break from the game
