This thread is particularly to follow Pakistan progress at the London 2012 Olympics.

Inshallah the team will bring great pride to the whole country.

I'll add whatever events I can find here on the OP & if others could contribute that would be great.

I'll try update the OP as we go along.

Anum is a young 15 year old born in London, representing Pakistan at the biggest sporting event.

Anum Bandey unfortunately finished last in the heats so did not qualify for the finals.

She finished the 400m in 5 mins and 34.64 seconds

Still a proud moment for a 15 year old to be representing Pakistan at the grand stage.

Inshallah she will continue to improve and return stronger in future years!

Poor start for Pakistan...

Anum Bandey finished last in her heat with a time of 5:34.64 which was 41 seconds behind the lady in front of her and over 63 seconds behind the quickest performer across all the heats...

I feel bad for the girl but thats a pretty awful display...

Bit harsh. Surely we can't suddenly expect someone to beat personal best (and national record) by more than a minute in a 5 minute race. Our swimming records are pretty shocking tbh to expect an olympic medal. even our mens record time at this event would NOT have made the womens final!

Those records are shocking...no blame attributed to her as she did her best and as you stated beat her own personal best which is also a national record...but she really shouldn't be performing at this level...how did Pak get a place in the swimming heats out of interest?...

And lol at the Pakistani males record being near 5mins...swimming clearly isn't Pakistans niche...Israr Hussain isn't on any of those lists...what are his 100m times like?...

Only our Hockey team is there on merit (Only they met the olympic qualification standard).

The rest of our athletes are there through 'wildcard' entries. I believe these are given out so more countries are represented and to ensure at least 1 woman from each country is represented.

Israr's qualifying time is well below the olympic standard unfortunately so I wouldn't expect medals

It will be interesting to see how Liaqat Ali does in the 100m since he ran 10.10 sec last year (National record) which is pretty good for someone from the subcontinent (asian record is 9.99 secs)

I'm surprised Pakistan actually made it to the olympics. We have talent but obviously it is not being utilized and there is no funding or government support towards sports. But that 15 year old girl Anum Bandey looks promising, hopefully she improves as she gets older and wins us a medal sometime in her life.

It is quite sad to see the lack of Pakistani participating at these games aswell as the lack of medal hopefulls, Insha'Allah we do get something out of these london games and we do have more individuals at Rio

Its 1345 UK time so I think that will make it 1245 GMT time

Pakistan finishes the first Hockey game VS Spain 1-1.

First time I've watched our hockey team in years and was pleasantly surprised by the fight and skill shown.

That said, there were periods of really sloppy play, and we should never have conceded that goal.

Also, listening to the commentators it sounds like Pakistan Hockey and Cricket are quite similar in terms of management and professionalism; 4 coaches in 5 years, current coach taking over a few months before the start of the tournament etc...!

I hope we can get a few wins, and you never know, maybe even sneak into the top two in the group . No harm in hoping though it will be a very tough ask I imagine...

Yeah did not qualify on merit - his doubles rankings was not high enough. Needed to get to the final of the French Open, but unfortunately lost in the semis.

Ranked 9th just 1 place below Pakistan (8th) but a must win game if we are to keep qualifying hopes alive.

Aus, GB and Spain from our group all ranked above us. South Africa are 12th ranked.

Yup on Sunday need to beat SA, Aus needs to beat GB & Arg needs to keep Spain at least to a draw, otherwise GB, Pak & Spain will all be on 7 points.

Liaqat Ali completed his 100m sprint in a very respectable 10.9 seconds however that was not good enough to progress from the preliminary rounds.

Another poor performance in the Olympics again by our Pakistani athletes.

The only way we are going to get any sort of medal is if they introduce cricket to the Olympics.

Such a big country. Population of over 200 million and yet cant find any sportsman in any field that can contend for a medal. Pretty Absymal and totally unacceptable.

Lack of facilities cant be the excuse because Country's like Ethiopia are winning gold medals. What kind of facilites do they have that produce athletes that produce medals.

There are over 100 sports in the Olympics . Surely out of 200 million people they should find atleast one individual with talent in any of the sports that can realistically contend for a medal.

I think events like shooting are our best hope. No offence to anyone, and maybe I'm being a bit ignorant, but imo I think shooting is a skill you can acquire through training.
