PCB reaction to SA racism
This whole Gibbs racism scandal has gotten out of hand. Now, we are witnessing prominant figures (like Gibbs Snr) making threatening gestures, warning ****'s not to come to the Test matches. Plus, we have SA cricket figures (and their captain) publically slandering Pakistani supporters as a security risk, etc, etc.
In this hideous atmosphere, I think our board needs to stand up and be counted. We should: 1) make a publically state our anger and disgust at both the original incident, and how SA has handled its aftermath 2) demand a COMPLETE and IMMEDIATE apology from Smith, and all SA cricket figures who have made slanderous remarks at the expense of Pakistan and its supporters. Half-apologies will NOT suffice. 3) additional security MUST be provided to the Pakistan team, in the face of this initimidatory atmosphere which has been created. 3) demand additional security measures be put in place to protect any Pakistani fan who wants to attend the remaining matches In addition, our government should call in the SA ambassador, and paste him across the 4 walls (verbally!). Any failure to IMMEDIATELY comply, should result in Pakistan taking the next flight home. They, SA, have turned the remainder of this series into a potential security risk. Any touring team, in Pakistan, would have packed their bags complaining of security, in the face of such inflamatory remarks. That would hit them RIGHT where it HURTS. And hey, we would be able to rest up before the World Cup

I think PCB is going in the right direction, by keeping quite. I know it may not sound the most impressive to some Pakistanis but PCB needs to keep a low profile for a little while purely because of what has happened in the recent past.
Such a reaction was expected from the South Africans after the Ovalgate and more so after the exoneration of Asif and Akhtar who are on the first tour after suspension. PCB needs to keep quite atleast till the world cup. Handle the drug testing for the World Cup wisely because there could possibly be a big mess if Akhtar or Asif test positive again even because of remaining drugs from the last test. It will be tough for the PCB to keep either of them out and then if they do then the question would rise about playing the duo before having them cleaned up. I am not trying to add drama here but PCB has some challanges down the road. |
