WC11 | Pre-Tournament Discussion Thread
Havent seen a thread on this as of yet so i thought i would create one, seeing as the warm up matches begin in less than a month.
Group A: Australia New Zealand Pakistan Sri Lanka Zimbabwe Canada Kenya Group B: Bangladesh England India South Africa West Indies Ireland Netherlands Group B is tougher than Group A as 6 of the 7 sides do have the potential to make it through to the next round. Though Group A does have some tough minnows in the form of Zimbabwe and Kenya on there day are decent. The top four teams from each group progress to the QF. So each team will need to win a minimum of three games i think. My four semi finalists would be: SA ENG IND SL Though i always believe Pak have an outside chance and we can beat ANYONE on our day. InshAllah this tournement will be a tournement to remember for all the right reasons and Afridi will be lifting the Trophy.

its entirely possible....We just have to beat the minnows and NZ to be 3rd in the group....Beating SA will be the only tough ask then...India vs pak can go either way....No matter how strong a Pakistani or Indian team may be, the result is always unpredictable.....its always a pressure game.....In the end I believe we are still a better ODI team than Eng in home conditions.....Pakistan all the way....

I think the semifinalists will be:
SL v PAK-- SL is a better side though PAK can pull off an upset and SA v ENG: probably SA So it's SA v either Pakistan or Sri Lanka |

Well, if both Kallis and Tendulkar are out of the world cup, it will take a lot of value off the tournament
Arguably the 2 biggest names in cricket going around, it'll be sad, the world cup won't be the same without them |

Nasser Hussein said the same when predicting World Cup Favourites today
He said, this time it can be anyone's world cup, not just Australia's like previous years. He mention Ind, RSA, Eng and Sri Lanka as dark horses. And then he laughed and said, NEVER EVER rule out Pakistan |

Saeed Ajmal hopes to shine in World Cup
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal is eyeing the 2011 ICC World Cup to produce his best performances on favourable tracks in the subcontinent.
Ajmal told ‘The News’ on Saturday that all his attentions are focused on One-day cricket leading up to the World Cup which starts from February 19. Ajmal, along with three other cricketers, is due to leave for New Zealand on January 17 to figure in the six-match one-day series starting from January 22 in Wellington. “I am looking forward to figure in the One-day series with the aim of gaining my top form for the World Cup. Though the selectors have yet to announce the squad, if I succeed in winning their confidence, I will try to put in the best of my abilities.” Ajmal said that World Cup be pinnacle of his cricketing career. “It is the event everyone is looking towards and I hope that I will make the World Cup one to remember.” The wily off-spinner had to return home from, New Zealand due to the sad demise of his father. “It is really a sad moment of my life as my parents always backed and supported me. However, I would try my best to overcome the shock I have suffered.” To a question about the differences between South Asian tracks to those in New Zealand, Ajmal said that he had just played one Twenty20 match earlier in the tour. “During the three overs I bowled against the Kiwi batsmen, I realised that stopping the flow of runs is very much a possibility on those wickets. “And when the batsmen slow down and try to hit out, chances of taking a wicket increase.” Ajmal has got the rare quality of delivering a perfect ‘doosra’ and hoped that his magic delivery would work in New Zealand. “Though wickets in New Zealand are famous for helping fast bowlers, spinners definitely have a role to play. It would not be easy to score at will against top spinners in the series.” Ajmal, however, is looking forward to the prospects of bowling in Sri Lanka during the initial round of the World Cup. “There is no denying the fact that South Asian wickets favour spinners,” he said. “It is here that you enjoy bowling the most!” http://www.thenews.com.pk/TodaysPrin...0&dt=1/16/2011 |

Common guys make a proper prediction.be always wary of aussies, don't write off pak, ind, eng,sa and sl can win, bangladesh in home,wi have a strong batting then who else to write off except nz lol
Pak,aus,sa(Though i want sa to win),nz won't win,no way.West indies are truly the dark horses for me this wc.I favor Sri lanka to win the trophy.

If it comes down to Pakistan taking on the Indians- then I feel that ALL the pressure for once would be on India. In the past we have had the better team thus have had more pressure.
This time to beat India, we would have to score a massive total batting first and bowl like tigers |
