Pakistan get boost from spinners: Abdul Qadir
Quote:
KARACHI: Former Test cricketer Abdul Qadir believes Pakistan has the best spinners who can prove their talent in the upcoming World Cup, to be played in the subcontinent where pitches favour spinners.
“The pitches in the subcontinent favour spinners and Pakistan has the best spinners in the world, so I feel they can play a pivotal part during the World Cup,” Qadir said.
The former selector welcomed the inclusion of wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal, saying it would strengthen the side.
The former spin maestro said the team announced for the World Cup was good, however, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan should have also been considered as he could prove to be handy with the ball and the bat.
Qadir said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not announce the captain for the all-important assignment because they were waiting for the outcome of the ongoing Test against New Zealand.
“If the team succeeds in clean sweeping the Kiwis on their home soil under Misbah-ul-Haq then he may be considered to lead Pakistan in the World Cup, otherwise Shahid Afridi would be asked to lead Pakistan,” he added.
Another former cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz said he felt the selection of the team was good and hoped the side would do well in the World Cup.
He supported selectors` decision to axe aging Mohammad Yousuf.
