Kevin O'Brien-The Irish Superstar | How Long Before England get him to Play for Them?

With O'Brien tonking it all over the place, how long do you reckon before they try and turn him English like Morgan and Joyce before him!!!

Joyce and Morgan played for England because they wanted to, as does Dockrell. They all said it in public. Takes two to tango.

I think icc should make a rule which prevents player from changing thier national team. At least there should be time limit/gap of atleast 4 years for representing different contries. It will help in establishing cricket in associated countries. And ecb should also show some guts by not inducting players from other countries.

To be honest, his hitting was better than afridi any day. Afridi gives many chances in his inning and many of his shots are never timed. Kevin only gave one proper chance and couple of edges, beside that every hit was from the middle of the bat and went long way. I love his power hitting, what a player.

Not bad at all.

Irish are known as a strong breed, I just saw some highlights and it seemed like pure power.

The victory against Pakistan in 2007 was just a shambolic performance by us but England put on a decent total.

Well done O'Brien and I hope you go on and make a fortune in IPL or similar leagues and feed your family with some big money.

no credit away from afridi.. he's been doing it for years after years but give credit where it's due. We all know afridi fastest century was against poor SL and ground was quite small. Kevin's inning was against a very good bowling attack and his clean hitting was something to be amazed. I love afridi but this inning from Kevin was priceless because Ireland was chasing and there were 5 down. Nothing beats playing under pressure and come out with 50 ball century.

Let me try to clarify again:

Afridi was mentioned in the title because Kevin was on his way to a fast-scoring century and we all know in what fashion Afridi scores his centuries!

Kevin O'Brien- Was this the best ever 100 in a chase?

Where does this knock by Kevin O'Brien rank among the best ODI 100s in a chase?

Came in with his team at 106/4 in 22 overs chasing 328, which soon became 111/5 in 24.2 overs. 25 overs left, 217 runs to be made, only the tail to follow. To play such a knock at that stage was an unbelievable effort.

113 in 63 ball with 13 4s and 6 6s at a strike rate of 179.36, says it all

Given the stage it has been played at, IMO this was the best ever 100 in a chase.

What's the general opinion on this?

He may have had played such an innings in very early part of his career ONLY... Since the day Afridi made 37 ball 100 (in his 1st batting innings), expectations have been really really sky high

K O Brien has had nothing to lose, and no big expectations were of him now... But it would be hard for K O Brien to replicate such an innings again, as people would start expecting from him now...

Herschelle Gibbs 175 was better. Though both great knocks respectively but Gibbs helped chase down 434!

International law states that if they want to represent another country .. the gap between leave the 1st team & joining the second team .. is suppose to be 2 years

PakPassion.Net: You'll be plying your trade with Northants for the 2007 season - and by October, you will be 'England qualified'.Can you realistically see yourself breaking into the England setup - esp as there are quite a few contenders for that role (G Jones, C Read, P Nixon, P Foster etc).

Niall O'Brien: For the time being I am concentrating on performing well for Ireland and breaking into the Northants First team. Those are my aims for the immediate future. When I qualify for England nothing will have changed in my view, I will need to play well at County level for a good length of time before any thoughts of me breaking into the England side come into my head. I want to play Cricket at the highest level and hopefully I am going in the right diretcion.
I'm not sure about the specifics regarding qualification for England but I remember an interview after this one where he said he'd like to play tests for England.

I don't think he played for a county in 2010 and has gone back to play for Ireland so he's at square one again. He couldn't play for England until 2014 even if he stayed in a county job for four years IIRC.

No, what I was referring to in my original post was from around 08 iirc. Point being in response to;

I don't think he is interested in England now.

Yeah I can't blame them and now with the World Cup, not really a World Cup (next time), what opportunities are for the associates? People cry, oh don't put them in tests, how can they play in the longer format? Now they are reduced to T20s and when they do win people start crying, "Oh it just T20, they can't do it in longer format."

Well if you don't give them a chance or opportunity too, then yes, they will never be abel to do it. Ireland deserve test status. They have produced some decent cricketers in Morgan and Joyce. They are not world class but that is how all test nations started. Sri Lanka at Rampanke or whoever, but I am sure guys like Sangakarra grew up watching them. And then Bangladesh had Mohammad Rafique and look how many left hand spinners they got. ICC needs to capitalize on this while Ireland is doing well so they can grab more attention from the public.

Where did Tendulkar come from?

Anyway, brilliant knock from O'Brien. One of the finest we'll ever see.
