Ahmed Shehzad had an altercation with a journalist [Merged]

KARACHI: Opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad, who is struggling for form in the ongoing World Cup, had an altercation with a Pakistani journalist at Pallekele where the side take on New Zealand on Tuesday, a report said.

According to a report in the 'Express' daily newspaper, Shehzad exchanged words with the Pakistani journalist during the national team's practice session on Sunday.

"Shehzad struggling for form complained to the journalist that they were not fair with him and was not in a very good mood," the report said.

Shehzad has managed a total of just 26 runs in three matches in the World Cup, two of them against minnows Kenya and Canada and his opening partnership with Muhammad Hafeez has also not come good with no sizeable stand as yet.

The failure of the two openers has led to captain Shahid Afridi and coach Waqar Younis expressing disappointment and calling on them to stand up and be counted in the remaining matches.

The report said that Shehzad approached the journalist after a long batting session in the nets and told him that when he scored runs in New Zealand no one wrote in favour of him but when he had failed in just three games in the World Cup the media was out for his blood and it was being unfair.

"The journalist reminded Shehzad that when he was scoring runs it was the media that highlighted his performances and encouraged him and that it was the job of the media to be critical if a player was not performing well," the report said.

The report said that later the other Pakistani journalists also reminded Shehzad of his responsibilities and wished him well.

This is my concern with Ahmed Shehzad. He can be quite temperamental and being in a 'bad mood' is no excuse to start arguing with journalists. You don't want the media turning against you, they can be a powerful enemy.

He also had attitude problems in the Academy and U19,he was warned for indiscipline a couple of times.A senior needs to talk to AS as soon as possible.

if he scores loads of runs he will be regarded as strong for standing up for himself, if he fails to score runs he will just look like a moody cry baby.

pressure is on kiddo, those journos gonna have a field day if you flop again, i personally think he will come good eventually.

the shot against canada was silly, but the ball against sl was a good one.

No seriously, Ahmed Shehzad is getting on my nerves now.

He does not perform, he does not score - he shoots his mouth off when not required (that balaji rao thing was in between Gul and Balaji. End of.) With this attitude, and zero effort in batting, he expects the whole country and media to sing his praises?

AS is fast losing rep. Needs to work on not just his batting but his "moods" as well.

What's the big deal in the issue? He merely questioned some media guys saying that it's unfair on what's been dished out to him for his 3 failures in this World Cup, and those guys simply gave him a logical reply to which everyone will agree. Just because he has had some attitude problems doesn't mean one has to keep him under the microscope for everything he does 24/7, in this case completely irrelevant.

Though Shezad may act immature , Pakistani journalists can be so unprofessional that they can really irk you . PCB also has to make sure their youngsters are being guided well by them . I would hate to lose another talented player to silly controversies , drug bans or spot fixing .

The point is, Shehzad was asking a journalist that why they don't write good things about him? Does he need media to support him? We know about his performances in NZ and all of his career till now. Whether the media says rubbish but we know the facts.

Usama, please read the every word of news very clearly only then you'll realise the actual SOURCE of the news.

The story was first Published in a Pakistani Newspaper Daily Express and was later released by the Karachi based reporter of PTI (Press Trust of India) and then TOI published it.

So, it is actually a story from Daily Express and it is already mentioned as Source in the item published in ToI. you need to understand what actually a NEWS Source is !! no offence
