This!!

I believe Amla's combined ODI+Test average is the highest ever at 103.3? Epic if true.

it prolly is.... kallis with 57.02+45.55=102.57 is prolly next on da list...

i think hussey is da only guy who averages 50 or more in both formats rite now.....trott's odi average has fallen a bit....but he can get back thr again with 1 or 2 knocks....amla can easily get thr imo....because if am not wrong he averaged 25 ish in his first 15 tests...so he has been performin damn well to have reached 47 ish in 50 odd tests....and imo it will only improve if he continues to perform well

Yeah that was a decent innings, it was an absurdly flat wicket though. I get the feeling the upcoming three-test series will force some spicy wickets, which will sort the men from the boys, on both sides

I think what really helped his game was when he was given a chance to play ODIs. It really improved him as a player overall. I'm not sure why (confidence maybe?), but his results improved drastically from 2008 on-wards.

His Test stats since he made his ODI debut are 34 matches avg of 56 and 11 100's while being the #1 ODI batter in the world.

yep ur right thr...also imo ODI cricket added another dimension to his test career....before he was more a grafter....now he has started playin either type of innings....aggressive sort or defensive sort acc to the situation....for eg his inning in 4th inning against aus in a test last year came at 83 runs/100 balls....say in 2006-09 i dont think he would hav pulled it off at 83......maybe more close to 55-60.....

but its great dat he can play both ways now.....dats why i say giv him some time in t20's and he can be atleast VERY GOOD thr 2....

Well he does have the highest ODI average in cricket at the moment.

corrected. Sehwag started opening in England, avg.40 before last tour. VVS has been worse, hardly managing 50s forget tons and Sehwag would still have a better chance of getting 100 in england then VVS.

The difference is you could have careless whether Sehwag got it or not but when it comes to Amla you have genuine interest in his success hence this thread will come back to haunt you.

He worked hard for it and if there are better players than him in South Africa then why don't they have Averages and Rankings above H.Amla?

I don't understand how people can say that he is over-rated....
Those people are just simply jealous(No-Offence)..

Another for Amla. Pressure on him after Kallis departs early again.

looking much better today. Leaving balls outside the off. 18 off 18 with 4 fours. All of them timed perfectly.

Amla really being more patient since the drop catch. 79* SR close to 90 still.

Brilliant batsman! Good average and has very nice shots in his Arsenal. He is also playing a very good knock today!

for 92 in 107. Good innings but missed out on his 10th hundred.

Have to say that the first half of the innings was much better than the second. Looked tired and lazy in the second half.

Oh well, not a jinx thread after all.

Just 8 short of a century, just another day at the office for Amla. Whippy and the rest of the haters have disappeared.

I followed the innings up until Amla got his 50 and the Kiwi commies were at awe by the masterful strokes played by the legend. Despite OP's best attempts at jinxing the legend comes through in flying colors .

I am not a hater. I have never been a hater of anyone, I'm just not like that. I am in this case a rater. But I have been saying for a good year or two that Amla is the fourth best batsman (still good) in the Springbok lineup and I stick by it.

Who cares what Whippy thinks, Whippy ones thought and argued vigorously that Swann is the best spinner in the world Bias views are bias.

Hm, when was that discussion last held? A year ago, when he was? Ajmal surpassed him this January and I was holding my hands up the same day, so no point trolling me really. Anyway that is off-topic.

Smith, Kallis, de Villiers, Amla. Quality South Africa batsmen - in that order.

Swann was never the best spinner in the world, on what basis did you claim he was the best spinner? On his performance in his backyard against a inexperience Pakistan, Bangla and a Sri Lankan team led by Dilshan?

Anyways stop derailing the thread please, this thread is about Amla and his performance in New Zealand yet you keep bringing Smith, Kallis and Abraham. :whatsupwiththat

Haters gonna hate.

Did you also find it really ironic the poster ramballed on about bias?

I mean, was that the literal definition of irony?

Thats about right if you consider all formats.

Its not an insult at all to be 4th in that list.

Well, it certainly beats any other spinners performances during that time phase. You also cease to mention he ran through the 2009 Australian side, the 2011 Australian side and also did remarkably well in South Africa which is known for being a spinners graveyard. Oh, and he absolutely demolished India's so called "Play spin with ease" batting lineup in the Oval.

Do you want to compare that to Ajmal's performances in the same year or Singh's?

My arguments at the time were perfectly valid, 7-fer in Australia, 8-fer v India and 10-fer in SA are quality

But you're the one who derailed it by trolling me and somehow getting on to spinners

'Haters gonna hate' indeedy

I think frankly Whippy is one of the most objective posters here.

If he is defined as bais who the hell are those people claiming Ali > Trott, Hafeez = Cook and Gul > Anderson/Broad?
