PakPassion Launches its Help Gaggoo Mandi Cricket Club Appeal [Audio Added]

PakPassion.net is proud to launch a unique and special initiative to help the Gaggoo Mandi Cricket Club.

Gaggoo is a town situated on the Dehli Multan Road between Burewala and Arifwala, in Vehari District, Punjab, Pakistan. Despite its population which is around 50,000 the town has produced some very high calibre cricketers.

At the moment Gagoo Mandi Cricket Club is in dire need of funds to help them nurture some of the best talent that Pakistani cricket has to offer and this is where WE can help. They had a second hand bowling machine for 6 years but that has now broken down.

The cricket club has been instrumental in revitalizing Pakistan’s fast bowling reserves by producing fast bowlers such as Mohammad Zahid whose career unfortunately ended prematurely by injury, as well as left arm bowler Mohammad Irfan who also donned the Pakistani greens in a couple of one day internationals in England in 2010.

The club has also produced talented batsman Naved Yasin and now seems to have unearthed another gem in the U19 strike bowler Zia Ul Haq who has drawn praise for his performance in the recently concluded Faysal Bank Super 8s tournament and also for PIA.

Given the services rendered by the club, it’s a sad fact that the club is run solely on donations from local businesses and well wishers and receives no central funding. Regardless of importance at a national level, Gagoo Mandi Cricket Club has remained an integral part of the local community for many years as the local population has a real and deep seated passion for the game of cricket.

Nadeem Iqbal the coach at Gaggoo Mandi Cricket Club who himself was a lightning fast bowler from this region, feels that with the right funding and support, the club can achieve its full potential, and stated "I strongly believe that if we had the funding for an academy and better equipment we would produce a lot of very talented cricketers who will go on and play for Pakistan. We do not charge the boys anything for playing for the club or using any of the facilities, as many of them could not afford fees."

PakPassion.net is launching this appeal for funds, aimed primarily at it's members to kick start this worthy cause. The funds raised by PakPassion.net will be utilized by the club management to buy equipment and carry out urgent repairs of club facilities (eg. dressing rooms).

As organizers of this charitable effort, we at PakPassion.net will be working hard with the club management to keep our members abreast of the improvements at the club carried out with donated funds. We hope to provide complete transparency to our donors by providing picture and documentary evidence of the improvements carried out on their behalf.

I had a chat with Nadeem Iqbal earlier today and he thanked everyone for their efforts in this project.

He also mentioned that he has three 12/13 year olds at the club who he thinks have the potential to at least play first class cricket. 2 are batsman/spinners and one is a batsman and already they are very impressive. So much so, that he will be putting them into the Under 15 team very soon.

We've had $50 worth of donations so far.

Would it not be a good idea to set maybe a target for donations? How much does a bowling machine cost? We could set a target for that amount and have a continuously updated meter in the first post to show progress.

GA, when I asked Nadeem Iqbal about a target, he said whatever the people of PP can afford. He didn't want to have a specific target.

I intend to send Nadeem the first lot of money by the end of May.

i really think you guys should put a counter for the amount raised on the home page so it changes everytime there is a donation. Also why dont you have a paypal link on the main sitewith the heading, "make a contribution" something like that..i also sent a pm to saj suggesting advertising etc but got no reply.

Nadeem Iqbal has been busy with a few projects. I'm waiting for him to set up a bank account so we can transfer the cas to him right away.

As you know sometimes things don't happen very quickly in Pakistan and I've been waiting for Nadeem Iqbal to set up an account for the project.

Anyway the monies are now with Nadeem and he will see where they can be spent upon.
