Nothing Like an English Summer

The hush in Lord's

Gower's peculiar voice, with Bumble's gems and co.

Be it West Indies, English summer is like none other, The ambience of Lord's is surreal

Memories of 2010 summer, what a special summer it was

In terms of English conditions, the way the ball swung, seamed what have you..the ball was talking

Michael Holding was just answering a query by N. Hussain who said West Indies can't play swing and Holding answered by giving the reference of summer 2010, that English can't play the swing either

That is just a testimony to how special it was and if you compare it to how India performed in summer 2011

It is great watching test cricket on Sky. No cheerleaders for a start whether that's on the ground or in the commentary box.

Oh! Words out of my mouth.

I hate the IPL and everything it stands for, the dollar throwing, cheerleading, booty shaking, six and fours hitting, teenage loving, tamasha, Bollywood sponsored, hit and giggle monstrosity that it is.

The serene location of Lords, a May morning of the 1st Day of the 1st Test at Lords is like nothing else. The ball seaming. Test cricket is like no other, it is REAL cricket, a true barometer of a cricketer's worth.

Although I disagree on Sky's coverage, as good as it is I'd rather see a return to free-to-air terrestrial television.

Unfortunately with each passing day more of cricket's heart and soul is being ripped out in favour of T20 domestic leagues. The shift from Lords to Mumbai/Dubai is continuing. Soon Tests will be shortened to 4 days or something to 'reinvigorate the sport' or some other PR twist. Why change something that has worked so well for over 100 years ?

Lords, home of cricket and the greatest sporting venue in the world.

Awesome thread. Not just the atmosphere and quality of coverage, it's the quality of the contest as well.

Bowling is brilliant to watch. The ball moves around all day and only a batsman with solid technique and temperament can score big. Just love the beautiful sight of a drive through the covers and a perfect outswinger being edged to the slips.

A nice video from the Lord's YT channel that describes it well:

It always used to be Australia for me too, but in recent times England has surpassed them, the quality of cricket England play in their home condition is incredible. Also 25K people make an English ground completely packed but not in Australia.

BTW IPL and English test cricket is no comparison. England has its own T20 league whose name i keep forgetting. Compare that with IPL

And to help your India hating miserable soul, you may compare with Indian test cricket. That would be fine. Apple with Apples, orange with oranges.

While there's no match of Test matches played in England, the charm of watching test cricket in those lush green, serene, beautiful, small (more importantly not big concrete structures) of NZ, even without packed crowds, is also mesmerizing.

I am in love with the Dunedin ground. Those lush green woods in background. pure bliss!!

depends aussie grounds are much bigger, so even if there 60% full, they have more people in than lords which is uk's biggest ground.

compare that to our grounds.
Fog, dust, yellowish brown grass, and the worst part ... when the camera is flashed onto some female the entire crowd erupts. Absolutely HATE that part.

i love the matches in england. especially absolute green tops with overcast conditions, ball doing all kinds of things. batsmen clueless. its fun that way. the only gripe i got is the mcc members with those ghastly coats.

they have barely any reaction to the game and are seen yawning shamelessly. otherwise, the crowd is polite and cheers both sides. i have got a wish to watch a game at lord's. but that remains a distant dream now.
