Carrick is a National Disgrace!

we say cricketers play for money?!?

Michael Carrick does not want to be in the Squad if he isn't considered a 1st team spot. how pathetic is that?? Nothing is bigger than playing for your country.

England are going to Euros, what if Gerrard,Lamps, Barry get injured or are suspended that is just a theory which doesn't matter tbh.

Point is how can a player not want to be part of England Squad who want to compete is a high profile tournament against other countries?

Talk about playing for your country eyy!!

That's quite poor from Carrick.

Representing your country should be about pride. Ego should never come into it, even if you are the water boy.

Each to his own, I suppose. Jordan Henderson might enjoy the experience more, anyway.

Really?Bloke is one of the best midfielders of his generation. He has been first choice in a midfield that has won four titles in six years and made to three CL finals.

It's a travesty that he has hardly featured in a sub standard English that carries likes of Barry and Parker who are average at best. Carrick is the most underrated Eng player since Steve Bruce.

It might be, but Carrick's response to it is poor.

I am not even a fan of England's and I find it quite insulting. You should be proud to even sit on the bench of your nation's team.

Ah well, it'll keep him energized for when the real games begin.

It may sound bad but you need to understand his feelings, despite being the best english MF this season in PL he still gets over looked all the time for the England squad. Even disasters like Glen Johnson, Downing, Carrol get to play, Carrick is well under rated. On current form he is better than all Parker, Lampard, Gerrad and who ever played for England this year and last year in CM.

This is a brilliant piece on him which i posted in the other thread.

Regardless of how good he, or if he should be in the playing XI, this isn't the way to react.

Poor stuff, and in my opinion should not be selected in future.

It is a poor response but I wouldn't say he is doing it for the money.

I think he feels he has never got a fair run, which in fairness he never has. He has been in and out of the team. I think the media may be misquoting Roy. I doubt Carrick demanded a first team spot considering he has not been in the England set up consistently. However, he clearly feels he would be a back up and even the odds of him even getting some game time is very little considering there is Lamps, Gerrad, Parker, Milner and Barry all ahead of him.

If it was about the first team spot only why tell the FA you retire ahead of time and keep quiet about it. He could have used the media to push for a spot during the friendlies.

England missed a trick here, playing same old oldies who will be over run in the middle.

Different roles. The role Lampard WILL BE playing for England (deep lying mid), Carrick is better at. Lampard may score goals for Chelsea but he won't get that luxury to roam in England set up. That is England's biggest problem. Their players inability to adapt, that is why their midfield has sucked for so many years. Too many of their best players are too use with the team built around them.

It seems to me that some English players put their ego before national pride, quite often we have seen players retiring early because they are not close to the starting XI or even players retiring to prolong their club careers. In that regards it is totally different to cricket

A player imo should always be available for national selection unless there has been a major dispute with the manager/board

I do think at the very least Carrick should be in the squad and potentially starting BUT no need for him to totally deselect himself

Mate under rdm lamps has been playing as a deep lying playmaker in a double pivot.

i really don't see the big fuss about this, if you look at this seasons stats he is the best English CM in the league when it comes to passing and tackling, England are in desperate need of a player that can keep possession, Parker and Barry can not do this !

I think the public generally hugely under estimates how effective Carrick's is, in 6 seasons at United 4 titles (1 lost buy 1 point to chelsea in 08/09 and this season lost to City on GD) 3 champions league finals, winning 1, for a team who does not have an out and out DM Carrick does a superb job.

He is a team player, Like Alonso said he makes the players around him loo good while he goes into the shadow.
He told the FA and the manger that he didn't want to be on the reserves list as that should be for the younger players, there is nothing wrong with that he is being honest. Also he did say he would be willing to help if there was a case of extreme emergency and injuries !

I remember Carrick playing against Spain a few years ago and he was poor, was all over the place

Carrick is a superb passer of the ball BUT he is not a DM, never has been and never will be

Against the really top sides he has struggled BUT this season he has been in good form and I think he is worthy of a starting spot in the national side or at least very close to it

I do not know which match you watched. It was probably in your dream. Spain had 71% possession and 21 goal attempts to England's only 29% possession and 3 goal attempts in England vs Spain friendly.

Carrick is poor man's Xavi but he is the best creative midfielder eligible to play for England and he should be in first eleven. Clueless Roy will probably start with failed Gerrard Lampard central midfield partnership.
