PakPassion UK outdoor cricket match - South Vs North

Dear PPers,

This is an idea I have floated with a few MODs and we are waiting to see what type of response we will get.

I want to organise a cricket match in the UK. It will basically be South vs North.

I have tried doing this previously, and initially there was a lot of interest which died away. I did organise a game vs my cricket club, in which most of the ppers who signed up for the indoor cricket league played. Btw we won by 8 wickets chasing 240 odd in 40 overs.

So here we go again.

Date : I want to organise this for next season April or May 2013. However if there is a lot of interest, then i may be tempted to organise it in Sept 2012. This will be played on a sunday.

Where : To be fair on everyone, i would like to organise this in Birmingham. I live in London myself, but have played cricket for many years in the B'ham leagues, so know the grounds etc.

Also Bham will be sort of half way for both sides.

Teams : Pretty obvious, all those South of Bham, play for the South and the ones above (inc Bham) play for the North.

Players : If anyone fancies flying to the UK to play, they are more than welcome to, but i doubt this will happen. Also if you do come to the UK to play, airfare and hotel expenses will NOT be reimbursed just thought i would make that clear. If any overseas players playing league cricket in the UK, fancy playing then they are more than welcome to. ex int players, even better but NOT

Format : Intend to play 2 twenty20 games on the day (3 if we can fit them in). Start time will be 11am approximately.

Cost : ground hire, balls, tea etc do not come cheap. Going by the fact that if we manage to get 22 players, then the cost will be around the £15 per person mark. This will cover all the above, but not transport cost. Players will be expected to bring their own equipment.

Please state interest on this thread of whether you would prefer Sept 12 or April/May 13. The deadline for the Sept 12 game will be 10 Aug 2012. If not enough interest is shown by then, the game will either be played in April/May 13 or not at all, which basically means ppl are not willing to commit.

Some good interest shown so far!!!! Honoured to have mr Pakistan 786 there if he can make it, but only if it is in full costume.

I would prefer to do it April/may 13, so I can plan the event properly.

Birmingham is ideal for most.

We were weak on bowling, but our batting was awesome. I got 60 odd, another guy got 130 no and another(ex FC Player) got 50 no.

Sounds like an excellent idea and we at PP will support it to the fullest.

Lets make it a big occasion - we already have some celebrities booked in (Mr. Pak) so all we need is some good teams.

Lets see all of those who talk about Pak cricket can now put their theories to test !

The stream is a brilliant idea and I invite any member with experience in this arena to come forward.

We should also have score updates and pics of the action too - very excited

I would like to partake and play, but ive got a fractured wrist right now Im recovering from as well as depression and a million other things..

Ive only played with windball these last 3 years... used to play for school cricket team with hard ball about 16 years ago... Dont know how id fare now, If id play id give it my all... for me its he taking part that counts.

I guess i need to aee how im feeling in mid 2013 to give a definite yes

May I suggest to reconsider the dates though. During April and May, the weather is not going to be great and chances of the day getting spoilt by rain / cold will be high. Moreover early in the season the pitches are soft and slow - making batting not fun. IMO, better time will be either early July (before Ramadhan starts) or ideally mid-August (after Ramadhan ends).

As far as i know yes i think it can support more than 300 easily, if not theres a few others which do, esp the ones which most illegal sports stream use.

Its only a 20/20 game so you'll only bowl 4 overs. Its a bit of fun and I,m sure most will be rusty. Sign up for this year and lets get this going.

I was reluctant to sign up due to the fact, I've not played for around 3yrs so bound to be very rusty, but as quality is not of a certain criteria then I would love to play, just a question before I fully agree to it, if the Sep match goes ahead, when is the likely date for it?
