I have a question - where is Shahid Afridi? He should be playing for Karachi Harbor. Anybody have any news on this?

It seems Afridi has absolutely no desire whatsoever to get himself back into form and back into the team.

If that is the case he should retire.

We cannot have people playing for us who are not enthusiastic and not 100% committed to the cause of Pakistan cricket. Islam is fine but if it is negatively affecting his cricket because he is down the Masjid when he should be practicing then it is time for him to move on.

Would be a shame but not a great loss for Pakistan cricket given his terrible form in the last year.

That wasn't such a bad thing for Mohammad Yousuf, now was it? I remember talking to some poeple after Yousuf became dedicated to Islam and they said the same thing and then what happened - he smashed 1700 runs in the whole damn year.

I reckon I know where he is actually, probably still in Saudi.

well i am just speculating from what discussion ive had with others. I guess right now if Afridi wants to continue to play cricket he needs to remain focused on doing just that.

This Islam vs Cricket thing is complicated.

My view is that the cricketers have short careers compared to the years they have left on this planet. They have plenty of time to dedicate to Islam after they retire but God has given them this talent and ability as a gift and they should use it to its fullest while they still have it.

I am not saying cricketers should have nothing to do with religion while they are playing but if it becomes such an issue that it is affecting your cricket (ie stopping you from practicing, stopping you from playing for your team) then it is best to leave cricket all together. Just my opinion.

I thought Hajj finished quite a while ago Pathan.

Why is he there until 29th January? Please excuse my ignorance.

I seriously cannot see how it would affect his game, it does not take long to perform namaaz and other islamic duties - infact i would say its better he focuses on Islam rather than the players who go out clubbing, yet people tend to be more lenient towards the clubbers

I also heard of this from somewhere. He went with the likes of Saeed Anwar, I'm not sure they are all back yet.

Because Hajj isn't just about the rituals, hes more than likely to have gone and visited other precious places within Saudi just like most of the hajjis do

I'm not sure about that Hash. None of us know how long we have left. If we did every one would have decided for them self.

Getting back to cricket, He should pay at namaaz time and practise when he needs to and team wants him to.
