With 3 CB and a numpty leaving we need to sign up 1 more CB.

We really just have TV, Djourou and this new guy now.

How is Havard Nordveit doing?

I watched one game he played with Nuremberg (but he was playing CM, like Djourou at Brumland) and he looked quite good in possession. However, that is no indication of his defensive capabilities.

I'm still waiting for Kyle Bartley to come along aswell. For someone so highly rated (we payed a mil to get him, which is quite a lot for Wenger to spend on a youth player) he isn't anywhere near the first team squad. In a few reserve games I watched last season, his Spanish (??) CB partner looked much better. Miquel is it? Just checked the Arsenal website and he only made two appearances for the reserves. Looks like there is a severe shortage of quality CBs coming through the ranks aswell.

Wenger believes Nordtveit has nearly completed his development, he is a strong tall centre back who's shown great maturity over the past year so, he was the reserve captain and was loaned out, I think he will be the defender from Reserve to make a impact.

Hajrovic the centre-back for U18s I highly rate, if he can continue this kind of good progress then he will become a excellent centre-back in the future, has recently signed proffesional terms so things are looking promising.

Another CB that arrived few season ago was Iganasi Miquel, he was snapped up by arsene wenger and he scouted him him 25 times, so im sure he has huge potential as the Catalan regret giving him away so cheaply.

Koscielny could either be an senderos or silvestre or he could end up being like vermaelen.

He only joined the club he's just left, 2 years ago he played for a Ligue 2 side and was named in team of the year, so to play for arsenal in 2 years, in the world's best league must be big for him.

He's eligible to play for Poland and France, with the 10mill spend, im sure he'll be a start, cannot wait to see this gem.

On the deal :- Welcome along. Hope this turns out as good as the Vermaelen deal. Wenger's record with defenders has been hit and miss but when he's forking out this kind of sum, I'm going to be quite expectant.

exactly - this could be a risk, but this kind of signing was expected, it's a typical wenger signing.

As usual Wenger has opted to target a defender outside of the Premier League, and once again it’s another Frenchman. The FC Lorient centre-back has impressed in the French league and he looks to be a good player, but in England many will be oblivious of what talent the player actually seizes. All I know is that Koscielny is a centre-back, who also has experience in the full-back position as well, which, evidently, could be useful to the Gunners this coming season following injuries to this particular area in the previous one. So could that mean Eboue could be leaving?

The Arsenal boss does rate the young French defender highly and has scouted him 30times , and for the pure fact that Wenger has a vast knowledge of French players and football in general, must only be a good sign.

All I can say is Arsene' knows best!

Arsène Wenger is planning changes to his first-team goalkeeping options, but any potential shake up will not affect Reserve team prospects Wojciech Szczęsny and Vito Mannone.

The youngsters are tied to long-term contracts at the club and Wenger did meet with both before the World Cup. The Frenchman has previously been linked with a selection of goalkeepers, all varying in age. However, it’s expected that any transfer he does make, would only be short term. The ideal situation is for a vastly experienced glovesman to be signed for one or two seasons, allowing Szczęsny and Mannone chance to gain match time on loan. Many believe Mark Schwarzer could be that player, with his agent holding talks with the Gunners recently.

Wojciech and Vito have returned to pre-season training and Ivan Gazidis is in negotiations with a large number of club’s over loan spells for the two. A verdict on where or if they go is expected when Wenger returns from television duty in South Africa, but it remains clear that the pair are very much the long term future of Arsenal.
http://younggunsblog.co.uk/2010/07/s...nges/#comments
Very reliable source there, if this does happend then I must say this has to be a very smart move by arsene wenger.

Also on arsenal.com - wenger has claimed he is still in the hunt for 1 more centre-back.

Wenger tells Barca to get lost on live French TV
11 Jul

Get in Arsene!!

Speaking on TF1, the national French Television Station, Wenger told viewers he has spoken to the Barcelona President, Sandro Rosell, and told him in no uncertain terms that Cesc is not for sale.

Wenger was speaking as a match summariser following the World Cup Final, won by an Iniesta goal set up to perfection by the Arsenal Captain.

This news follows the report in this morning’s Sunday Times, which detailed news of a 2 Million pound property that has just been purchased by Cesc in the leafy Hertfordshire town of St Albans.

About time the Arsenal knockers came out and apologised, they were pretty quick to come forward ( as per the norm ) when the rumours of the Barca bid were flying around, canning all and sundry at the club for not putting up a defence.

My feelings before the World Cup were that we would see Cesc in an Arsenal shirt for another season, my feelings after the World Cup are exactly the same… but with a lot more conviction.

Congratulations, Cesc Fabregras… Arsenal Captain, European Champion… now World Champion.

When asked if he was set to sign gourcuff, wenger said :-

Quote:
"We are not interested [in Gourcuff] and we were never contacted," Wenger told Telefoot.

"He's a player I like a lot, but we are sufficiently covered in midfield."
With Ramsey making a suprise quick recovery I can't see us spending on a midfielder, the only midfielder likely to come is Joe cole although I believe we have wilshere there who is similiar to joe and galindo should be ready is a few years time.

A little Update on the incident which happend last night,

http://www.skysports.com/football/wo...ine&modal=true

Quote:
But the Gunners skipper was reluctant to let his Spain team-mates dress him in the famous blue and red shirt and was swift to dedicate his World Cup winner's medal to Arsene Wenger's side.

Fabregas said: "This is for the Arsenal players, the Arsenal fans, the manager Arsene Wenger and all the staff. I am really proud being an Arsenal player. It is for them. They deserve it and they have a world champion at the club.

"I'm proud to give this trophy to all the fans, I've had lots of texts and messages; my phone is full.

"I had a text from Arsene Wenger. He said 'Congratulations, you deserve it'. I replied 'thank you very much' and told him this is for the whole of Arsenal who have helped me get where I am today."

Sky Sports News understands Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer would be interested in a move to Arsenal.

Arsenal are believed to have made the 37-year-old their top target as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options this summer.

The Gunners have already seen one bid rejected last month by Fulham for the former Middlesbrough shot-stopper, but they remain keen on luring Schwarzer to North London.

However, reports that Schwarzer has already undergone a medical at Arsenal have been rejected with the player currently away on holiday as he recovers from his World Cup exploits with Australia.

Fulham are loath to lose Schwarzer, but they could face a fight to keep hold of the keeper if he pushes for a move to the Emirates.

Why not?

I'm happy with this deal, he is at a stage where he is starting to show the best of him (peak), similiar like van der sar, I can see him staying at arsenal for 1-2 years until Vito Mannonse and Szency are fully developed and rearing to go.

We have two young quality keepers waiting to show us how good they are, if we sign a young keeper then it's pretty pointless having reserves and U18s if we are not to use them in the future.

Schwarzer is a very good keeper, he's better then Almunia and is in the top 5 best keepers currently in the premierleague.

What is the point you are trying to tell me, explain?

FC Barcelona Internal Memo - FAO all players.

Estimados jugadores de FC Barcelona, por favor, find attached el schedule por el talking jibber-jabber de Cesc Fabregas.

Wednesday July 15th - Lionel Messi: Please mention the fact you played with Cesc in the youth team at Barcelona. Do not mention you were 3'2 at the time or, indeed, are 3'2 now. Or we'll stop giving you your growth sweeties.

Thursday July 16th - Xavi: Despite the fact you are one of the most senior players and your performances on the pitch cannot be faulted in any way we believe your jibber-jabbering requires some work. We know you love Cesc's DNA, and long to slurp it up from ornate goblets, but please do not mention it, his head or his heart. Should you feel the need to talk about his internal organs, his genetic make up or even his hairstyle, please note that your statement will require approval.

Friday July 17th - Gerard Pique: We would prefer you didn't say anything at all but do you think you could spit on Arsene Wenger when he's not looking? We have every confidence that you can fulfill this task but please remember if carrying this out in a very public place there may be cameras.

Saturday July 18th - Sergio Busquets: You will play a crucial role in the capture of Cesc. If and when Arsenal negotiate we want you with us. When given the signal you will fall to the ground under the slightest contact screaming as if every bone in your body has been shattered. When Gazidis goes to check you're all right we shall put Cesc under our coat and make a break for it. You may use your patented peekaboo to ensure the coast is clear before you magically heal and leave the room. If they capture you we will go on without you.

Sunday July 19th - Andrés Iniesta: You are excused from this current round of public tapping-up but for God's sake man go get some sun. You look like a footballing corpse. There have been complaints from some parents that their children are having nightmares about you. 'The man with the face of a phantom' they call you. Sort it.

Monday July 20th - Carles Puyol: Puyol make caveman noise. Puyol beat chest. Puyol eat meat. Puyol good. Good Puyol. Goooooood Puyol.

Further schedule details will follow early next week. Also, please note that Sandro Rosell must now be referred to you as 'Your Majesty' or 'Your Holy Awesomeness'. Anyone failing to do so will be made go for a sleepover with Pique and Ibrahimovic.

Your cooperation, as always, is much appreciated.

yours etc,

The Barcelona board.

ps - we will be paying your wages at some point in the next few weeks. We're not broke at all. Don't believe the papers.

pps - a percentage of your wages will be paid via the issuing of shares in the company. You all get a billion each which is worth ... erm ... loads. Trust us. When these stock options hit the roof. Kerching. Quids in, lads. Honest!

ppps - to the smart **** who left the 'Haven't you learned your lesson buying players off Arsenal yet?' message in the suggestion box, har har. Have a nice time in New York, *******.

---

hilarious article i thought i would share from arseblog lol...

Larsson is playing for a team that considers staying in the Prem League as an achievement. If he was any better than he would, at least, be playing for one of the teams that regularly qualifies for Europe.

He is no way near the same quality as Diaby, even Denilson will be a better player than him.

hes a standout performer for them...wenever he played for arsenal he was pretty good...when we loaned bendtner and larsson muamba to city...the three single handedly got them back into the prem league...larrson was more impressive than bendtner yet it is niklas who has become a permanent figure in the arsenal team...it depends on the luck of the draw...bendtner had virtually nobody ahead of him wile seba had fabregas gilberto etc ahead of him...it was pretty much decided from the onset...and lol they finished 9th in the league last year and were at one point on course for europa cup

How can you call Schwarzer who is a goalkeeper not arsenal standard?

you simply cannot compare joey barton to schwarzer - mainly because both play different positions - and different clubs too.

I don't know how you can say Schwarzer is not good enough for arsenal without him even playing,

he has been a vital player since arriving at craven cottage and was superb in the europa league, he can be even better considering we have better defence then fulham and anyways he is a 'short term' keeper.

I'd have Schwarzer then Almunia for a 'short term' solution.

He's not Arsenal standard? You guys have had Clownmunia in goal for the past few years - the main thing is he is far superior to him

Denilson is actually a very good technical footballer, as highlighted especially in his CL performances (esp. away vs Barca, Villareal etc).

However, I think the PL is way too physical a league for someone like him - he keeps getting bundled over the ball and consquently conceding possession. I can see him being a top top player in either of the Spanish or Italian leagues.

I just don't know how you can say Schwarzer is not good enough for Arsenal when he is clearly better then Almunia and Fabianski, and as a short-term keeper I wouldn't mind him at all.

2-3 Million is considered normal in today's market so I doubt that's a major issue to discuss about.

Yes I understand you'd prefer someone like joe hart, akinfeev or adler, who wouldn't?! But vito has potential, we saw that v fulham, he's a typical italien shot-stopper and there's szency who was brilliant at brentford (I posted a clip few pages back), trust me these 2 keepers will be s good that it'll be hard for wenger to decide who'll be arsenal's number 1 keeper.

Both are distinctly average and would hardly feature in a Premiership winning team. The brilliance of Fabregas and Nasri at the center of the park cover their inadequacies.
