PakPassion World Cup 2010 Fantasy League

Ok folks the greatest sporting event in the world starts in less than two weeks - we have a Fantasy Football League for PP'ers

Last time for Euro 2008 we used the Metro site BUT that was rubbish so this time we will go with McDonalds FIFA World Cup Fantasy League - links to the site and rules are below

HOMEPAGE

RULES AND HELP

If you go to the homepage you will have to register (e-mail, set up a username, password, usual malarkey) and then you can join the fantasy league

A PakPassion league has been set up - the pin number to join is 311305-73398

At the moment you can only register and join the PP league - you cannot pick your players yet since the squads are not officially selected - on June 4th you will be able to pick your team

If you have any questions then add them to this thread and I shall try to answer them

Now I can sense how close the world cup is.

I am bubbling with excitement. Can't wait.

This should be a fun competition.

Classic scoring system - its simple and straightforward

The head to head gets a bit complicated especially if we get an odd number of people joining the league

Nice - I agree about the complications surrounding head to head.

This will make the world cup even more exciting to follow.

I thought that the Euro2008 comp on Metro was really good, then again I might be basing this on the fact that yours truly came first

No pressure then.

Exactly

The rules/set up was fine BUT the problem was that it was really slow - sometimes taking 30 mins to make a few basic changes

How exactly does this work?

Can we substitute players from the bench after every game, but can't transfer outside the 23 that are selected, right?

Yeah. When Round 1 concludes then you can make a certain number of transfers and the window shuts again till the end of Round 2...and so on.

does anyone know of a site where you can have a fantasy draft, rather then everyone having the same players in their fantasy team you have to pick which player you get and then only you can play him, something similar to the nba, nhl, nfl fantasy games where you only compete agaisnt your friends.

Yes, sorry I missed it earlier

There are 2 approaches to substitutions

1) Automatic - you just let the computer do its stuff. With this method if your captain does not play then you miss out on points

2) Hands on approach - you can make susbtitutions 15 mins prior to each matchday - this way you can change your captain providing he wasnt sent off. Also you can change substitute players BUT they will lose points that they may have gained up til that point

There are more explanations here

So, suppose I have a Mexican player in my team, and as mexico is going to play on the 1st day of the round 1. After the player has played the game (Mex Vs RSA) the computer will substitute him automatically and pick the next player who is on top in the substitution bench.

And if I do it manually before next day's game all the points scored by that player will be lost? Is it that way or how?

I am doing it for the 1st time and a bit confused.

The computer will only substitute him if he doesnt play, otherwise it will leave him and you get whatever points he gets

If you do have a player that plays and get some points (example, Messi) BUT you can substitute him for someone on the bench BUT then you will lose any points Messi gains

As soon as one completely selects the squad, the starting XI is selected automatically. And then you can change the playing XI according to your own choice.

The amount of money given is great because you can pick real quality players, it's just it'll be even harder to make your mind up on the first xi.

Found plenty of bargains too, this is going to be brilliant.

Just drag one of the subs (Midfielder for defender or vice versa) but if your player has already played a game you will lose all his points.

you can have following formations.

4-4-2

3-4-3

3-5-2

4-3-3

If you drop a player to bench you will lose all the points he has gained.

As AT mentioned you will - it is only worth taking a player off if he hasn't played too well. Any idea jow many points Evra got?

No problem GA.

Rooney is not in my starting line up, so I want Messi to score.

Rooney for the next rounds.

I got 0 BUT I don't think I had any players playing today

To check the points go to the site and select my leagues and then pakpassion, it should have the latest table (I won't be able to post it at the moment cos I'm at work)
