Rohail Nazir is a talented Pakistani cricketer, primarily known for his role as a wicketkeeper-batsman. He gained prominence through his performances in age-group cricket, particularly as the captain of Pakistan's Under-19 team. He has shown potential with both the bat and behind the stumps, making him one of the promising young players in Pakistan's cricketing circuit. He has been part of domestic teams like Northern and Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he continues to develop his skills and aims to secure a spot in the national team.

By Saj Sadiq (17-08-2024)

Pakistan has no dearth of talented wicket-keepers, and Rohail Nazir is certainly one of them. From emergence in cricket through a proper pathway to captaining the Pakistan U19 side in the ICC U19 World Cup 2020, Rohail has seen it all.

He's one of the very few players in Pakistan who have made a First-Class debut before playing in the U19 World Cup, where against a star-studded bowling attack of HBL, the young wicketkeeper hammered a magnificent 130 to prove that he belongs.

He not only captained the U19 World Cup and Asia Cup, but he also led the team on the triumphant tours of Sri Lanka & South Africa, while also emerging as one of the top scorers for Pakistan on those tours. He's now been included in the Pakistan Shaheens squad as well for the 2nd four-day against Bangladesh A.

In the latest episode of PakPassion exclusive interviews, Saj talks with Rohail to discuss his journey, whether has he been treated unfairly, and what lies ahead for him.

Some of the key highlights of this interview are:

Performance Consistency: Highlighted the importance of consistent performance, especially in challenging times, to maintain a place in the team.

Young Talent: Feels that exceptional talent can emerge from structured systems such as the U16, U19, and domestic leagues.

Learning from Role Models: Stressed the significance of mentorship citing successful wicketkeepers like Mohammad Rizwan and Jos Buttler as examples.

Format Balance: Raised a critical point arguing that selectors should consider red-ball performances and suggested that all formats should be treated equally in the selection process.

Future Aspirations: Mentioned his ambition to return to the national team.

Support Systems: Acknowledged the support of PCB and coaches throughout his career and in nurturing young talent.
