Pakistan All Stars XI Innings

Hard-hitting opening batsmen Imran Nazir and Shahzaib Hasan came out to bat in front of a nearly packed National Stadium Karachi. South African fast bowler Andre Nel opened the bowling for the International World XI and the Pakistan All Stars XI were off to a flying start, reaching 60 for no loss in just 5 overs, courtesy of shortened boundaries and some ordinary fielding by the International World XI players in addition to the powerful hitting by the opening batsmen.

The International World XI seemed to be a bit rusty as they struggled to hold on to the ball, dropping as many as 5 catches in the first 7 overs. Shahzaib Hasan raced his way to a half-century off just 19 deliveries. Nazir was the first batsman to be dismissed as Andre Seymore sent him back to the pavilion for 29 off 19 deliveries. Shahzaib Hasan soon followed as Seymore caught him brilliantly at the boundary off the bowling of Thandi Shabalala. He scored 54 off 21 deliveries, with 6 fours and 4 sixes.

Nasir Jamshed came in to bat at number three but was soon sent back to the pavilion by Tshabala. He scored 19 off 13 deliveries, with 2 fours and a six. Hasan's dismissal had let to the arrival of the crowd-favourite Shahid Afridi amidst a loud cheer from the NSK crowd. He started off well and got dropped once before getting out for 18 off 7 deliveries. Umar Akmal and Shoaib Malik then carried the Pakistan All Stars XI innings forward, rotating the strike regularly along with hitting boundaries. Malik fell victim to Tshabala after scoring 13 off 5.

Fawad Alam joined Umar Akmal in the middle, and some classy shots from the pair took Pakistan towards 200. Akmal in particular was unable to pick the gaps beautifully and really toy with the bowlers. He brought up his 50 off just 27 balls in the 17th over, taking the total score to 200 at the same time. Fawad fell for 18 in the final over thanks to a fantastic catch from Adam Sanford and he repeated the feat 2 balls later, taking another remarkable catch to dismiss Sarfraz Ahmed. A fabulous scoop from Umar Akmal for 6 pushed Pakistan 222 for 7, surely a match winning total.

Fall Of Wickets:

1-83 (Shahzaib Hasan, 6.1 ov)
2-84 (Imran Nazir, 7.1 ov)

5-151 (Shoaib Malik, 12.3 ov)

7-215 (Sarfraz Ahmed, 19.4 ov)

International World XI Innings

The International World XIstarted their innings brightly, with Jayasuriya showing flashes of his old self by hitting a four and a six off in the first over off Anwar Ali, but was caught off the final ball of the over looking to for another lofted shot, leaving them 10/1.

American Steven Taylor came out at number three to join Afghanistan international Mohammad Shahzad. Shehzad hit two sixes in his 8-ball 14, but succumbed to a Wahab Riaz in the fourth over of the innings, as Wahab rattled the timbers, who was bowling with good pace.

27 year-old pacer Tabish Khan bowled the fifth over which included a couple of wides and a couple of good deliveries. However Taylor, who had been uncharacteristically quiet during the first 10 deliveries he’d faced, scored two fours off the final two deliveries of Khan’s over, including a push-drive through the ring of fielders.

Wahab bowled a short delivery in the sixth over which cramped up Taylor and he miscued a pull to midwicket. Wahab He bowled a good over, including a searing yorker which hit the batsman just outside leg stump.

Powell was next in and powerfully stuck the first delivery of the seventh over point for 4. Tabish was not perturbed however, and proceeded to bowl Powell, Lawson and Tshabalala in the next three deliveries to complete his hat-trick, leaving WLDXI 52/6 off 7 overs.

No wickets fell in overs 7-11 as Shoaib Malik bowled a couple of innocuous overs, although he did instigate a close stumping chance and Tabish failed to replicate the pace and movement of his previous over.

Andre Nel and Shapoor Zadran came together to bring some respectability to the WLDXI score and Nel negotiated 15 deliveries before he was run out for 7.

Loots Bosman came in next, down the order as he was nursing an injured finger, and hit Afridi for a boundary.

Umar Akmal bowled the 15th over, and Zadran struck his part-time spin for 11, including a six and a four. Continuing the battle of the part-timers, Imran Nazir and Nasir Jamshed and Fawad Alam bowled the next few overs. Jamshed certainly came off the worse as Bosman dished out some of the treatment the big opener had given to others in the World T20. Pakistan used 10 bowlers in the innings.

Afridi bowled the final over and picked up a wicket off the final ball as the match ended in a comprehensive victory for the Pakistan All Star XI.

Fall Of Wickets:

1-10 (Jayasuriya, 0.6 ov)
2-35 (Mohammad Shahzad, 3.3 ov)
3-47 (Taylor, 5.4 ov)

5-52 (Lawson, 6.3 ov)
6-52 (Tshabalala, 6.4 ov)
7-85 (Nel, 13.1 ov)
8-138 (Zadran, 19.6 ov)

Match Summary:
