Day one of the Faysal Bank T20 saw two centuries being scored in the same match, favourites Lahore Lions and Karachi Dolphins register victory and Rams struggle against Bahawalpur.

Bahawalpur Stags 173/5 v Rawalpindi Rams 154/9 (20/20 ov)
Stags won by 19 runs

A blistering 89 off 53 balls from Imranullah Aslam laid the foundations for a 19-run victory over Rawalpindi Rams. Awais Zia was the pick of the bowlers for Rams, as he conceded only 25 runs from his allotted 4 overs. He wasn’t able to replicate his performance with the bat however, as he was bowled for a duck. His opening partner Naveed Malik responded with a quickfire 52 off just 22 balls, but the side’s fate was sealed as Rawalpindi buckled under the pressure of the chase.

Karachi Dolphins 164/7 v Peshawar Panthers 124 (19.2/20 ov)
K Dolphins won by 40 runs

Dolphins’ captain Shahid Afridi top-scored for his team with a 50 off 38 balls, sharing a strong partnership with Anwar Ali (27 off 18) batting at number 8. Peshawar opener Ifthikar Ahmed struck 57 off 47 balls, but found little support from his fellow batsman as Peshawar slumped to 124 all out against a strong Dolphins bowling line up including Mohammad Sami (4ov, 1/24), Anwar Ali (4ov, 2/24), Shahid Afridi (4ov, 1/22).

Quetta Bears 72 v Multan Tigers 74/0 (11/20 ov)
Tigers won by 10 wickets (with 54 balls remaining)

Mayhem at the Gaddafi Stadium, as Abdur Rauf (3ov, 2/33), Mohammad Irfan (3ov, 3/8) and Zulfiqar Babar (4ov, 2/3, including two maidens) combined to skittle the Bears. Multan openers Zain Abbas (40 off 34) and Sohaib Maqsood (32 off 33) chased down the total with little fuss.

Islamabad Leopards 122/9 v Sialkot Stallions 128/2 (15.5/20 ov)
S Stallions won by 8 wickets (with 25 balls remaining)

Leopards’ new recruit Umar Gul would have hoped for a better start for his side, but three wickets from Umaid Asif (3/21) helped Stallions to restrict Islamabad to 122, and with Bazid Khan top scoring with 28 off 22. Stallions made light work of the total after Imran Nazir hit 65 off 43 balls opening the innings.

Lahore Eagles 224/2 v Hyderabad Hawks 166/5 (20/20 ov)
L Eagles won by 58 runs

Lahore’s second team, the Eagles, posted the a mammoth 224 from their 20 overs, led by their openers Taufeeq Umar (65 off 53) and an unbeaten 100 off 59 balls by Imran Farhat. Not to be outdone, the highly-rated Sharjeel Khan responded for Hawks with 103 off 65 balls, including 7 sixes. However, he found little support from his team-mates after opening partner Azeem Ghumman departed for 28 off 15 balls. Junaid Zia (4 ov, 2/20) and Asif Raza (4 ov, 2/18) were the key bowlers for the Eagles.

Zebras 141/6 v Lahore Lions 144/3 (18.1/20 ov)
Lahore Lions won by 7 wickets (with 11 balls remaining)

Karachi Zebras posted a competitive 141, led by 59 (52) from Fahad Iqba. Aizaz Cheema’s two wickets (2/21) and economical spells from Abdul Razzaq, Mustafa Iqbal and Mohammad Hafeez ensured the Zebra’s were never able to get away. Wahab Riaz’ struggles continued, as he conceded 30 runs from his 3 overs and it wasn’t a vintage day for Zia-ul-Haq (1/40 off 4 overs). 53 (43) from Hafeez and 43 (28) from Umar Akmal ensured a strong Lions team didn’t slip up against Karachi’s second team.
