Pakistan’s new kit looks and feels different, and it is – for the first time ever, the cricket kit of a major cricketing nation has been designed with the involvement and input of the average cricket fan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Boom Boom, Pakistan’s official cricket kit suppliers, have today launched Pakistan’s impressive new kit, in time for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

Pakistan’s new kit looks and feels different, and it is – for the first time ever, the cricket kit of a major cricketing nation has been designed with the involvement and input of the average cricket fan.

Ironically, in the past it is that ‘fan’, the passionate follower on the street, who would proudly wear his country’s colours to every match, but who hitherto had no voice in the process at all!

So how did Pakistan end up as the pioneer in bringing the fans into this process? Simply, by listening to “PakPassion.net”, the acclaimed ‘voice’ of Pakistani cricket fans the world over.

Founded in June 2000 by a few die-hard Pakistani cricket fans, PakPassion (“PP”) has grown from its humble beginnings to become Pakistan’s premier cricket discussion forum, and the place to be for cricket fans from the world over. PakPassion’s 37,000 + members come from all corners of the world; from established cricketing nations such as England, Pakistan, India, Australia and New Zealand, as well as other regions where cricket is not yet established, including the USA, Canada, the Middle East, Italy, Germany and even Japan and the Maldives!

This diverse and truly global membership makes PakPassion a lot more than just the leading Pakistani website on the whole internet; it also makes it the best place to discuss cricket and all issues related to cricket.

PakPassion’s history and huge fan base, and its close involvement with all aspects of cricket in Pakistan, has also made it the best source of articles, interviews and other exclusives on all aspects of Pakistan cricket – leading global news organisations rely on interviews and quotes generated by PakPassion on key cricketing events.

PakPassion has strong links with everyone involved in Pakistan cricket - not just the star players and the senior officials, but also the emerging and younger players and the domestic performers, the regional coaches, administrators, academy professionals, umpires, fitness trainers, agents, marketing companies, etc – all welcome being provided with a voice on PP and a forum to interact with cricket fans.

With this background, it is no surprise that PakPassion and Boom Boom's designers have collaborated on the new Pakistan kit. The fans at PP are passionate about all aspects of the Pakistan team, including the kit and equipment being used by the players.

Cricket clothing and equipment, just like the game of cricket itself, is constantly evolving, in particular at the highest levels: kit designs and fabrics, bats, pads and protective equipment, are all improving as modern materials and technology is utilised to the fullest extent possible by kit and equipment manufacturers.

Hence, many avid cricket followers watch international cricket not just for the live action and the result; they are also constantly on the look-out for new trends and developments in clothing and equipment.

With this background, PP carried out an extensive exercise a few months ago for the global fans of Pak cricket to contribute their ideas on what Pakistan's kit for the 2011 ICC World Cup should look like. Given PP’s strong links with the PCB and with Boom Boom, the best of these ideas were communicated to Boom Boom's designers for their input and implementation.

PakPassion is delighted to report that Boom Boom took the passionate Pakistani fans’ feedback fully on board and have duly listened to the ‘voice of the cricket fan’.

We can now exclusively reveal that the new Pakistan kit for the ICC 2011 Cricket World Cup, being launched today, was inspired by designs submitted by amateur designers and cricket fans on PakPassion in conjunction with Boom Boom's design team! This is a huge achievement not just for PakPassion and our in-house graphics designer Waleed Mushtaq whose designs inspired Boom Boom, but also for all PP members, and more broadly, for all cricket fans.

PakPassion welcomes Boom Boom Managing Director Mr. Ali Ehsan’s pro-activeness in listening to the Pakistani cricket fans, and providing them a say in designing the Pakistan Cricket Shirt for the 2011 World Cup and beyond
