The 33 year old Hameed speaking with PakPassion.net after the win against Quetta Bears at the National Stadium Karachi spoke of his satisfaction at the century as well as his dreams to play for his country again.

By Saj Sadiq (September 26th, 2011)

Yasir Hameed started the Faysal Bank Twenty20 Cup 2011 with an excellent century off only 64 deliveries. Hameed’s innings of 101 not out which included 14 fours and a six, helped set up a comfortable victory for the Abbottabad Falcons over the Quetta Bears.

33 year old Hameed speaking with PakPassion.net after the win at the National Stadium Karachi spoke of his satisfaction at the century as well as his dreams to play for his country again.

“I felt good out there. It was a good batting track and the ball was coming on nicely. Some days you try things and they work, some days your luck is in and today was my day. I’m really pleased with the innings and proud of what I did out there. To score a century in Twenty over cricket is a tough ask and I’m very happy with what happened against Quetta.”

“Whilst I scored a century, the most important thing is that Abbottabad got off to a good start ahead of two tough matches against Karachi Zebras and Lahore Eagles. We’ve got a good group of players and the spirit is good, let’s see we could surprise a few people.”

Hameed has represented Pakistan on 81 occasions and has scored 5 centuries and 20 half centuries during that time. He last played for Pakistan on the ill fated tour of England last year which was marred by controversy, but he feels that he still has a lot to offer Pakistan and that he is not past his best.

“I think I am still good enough to play for Pakistan and my international aspirations still burn brightly. I look at the example of Misbah-ul-Haq who has shown that age is no barrier and I look at him as my inspiration to return to the Pakistan side. I am 33 but that should not count against me as I have a lot of experience and can also help the younger players in the Pakistan side."

“The innings against Quetta is hopefully the start of my comeback and I feel that I can still do a job at the top of the order for my country in any format. I have never been fitter, I have been working really hard on my fitness in the close season and I want to put the bad times behind me, look ahead and get back to playing international cricket.”
