Pakistan interim coach Mohsin Khan was a satisfied man after his charges defeated Sri Lanka in all three formats in the recently concluded series in the United Arab Emirates.

Pakistan interim coach Mohsin Khan was a satisfied man after his charges defeated Sri Lanka in all three formats in the recently concluded series in the United Arab Emirates.

Former opening batsman Khan was appointed as interim coach for the series against Sri Lanka after Waqar Younis' resignation and was subsequently asked to continue in the role by the new Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf for the series in Bangladesh.

Opinions at the PCB hierarchy seem to be divided upon whether a foreign coach should be appointed or if a home grown option is more suitable. The PCB have not as yet tied Khan down to a contract or offered him the role on a long term basis but if results, team spirit and performance is anything to go by then the PCB should look no further than Mohsin Khan.

The interim coach seems to have stuck a rapport with both senior and junior players and speaking to PakPassion.net he confirmed that whilst he is very keen to take up the role permanently, terms have to be right.

Khan also spoke of his enjoyment and satisfaction in the role he is currently performing and spoke of his recent meeting with Zaka Ashraf in the UAE when the permanent position of Coach was discussed.

"I always say that I am well known only because of my country Pakistan. Without my country I would not be known at all. My aim has always been to serve Pakistan cricket in whatever capacity it requires me to serve. I am available to the Pakistan Cricket Board in whatever way they want me to work for them and in the best possible way. I did the tough job of Chairman of Selectors when the Board asked me to perform that role and now I was required to do the equally tough role of Coach and I have performed that to the best of my ability."

Khan added "I’m enjoying the role of Coach and the boys are responding well to me. However let me clarify that I am not just enjoying the role because the team are winning and playing well, but because I feel that I am giving more to Pakistan cricket as Coach rather than in any other capacity, which gives me a lot of personal satisfaction and pleasure."

Khan further stated "I’m ready to take on the role of Coach on a permanent basis but it depends on the terms and conditions offered to me by the Pakistan Cricket Board. The Board Chairman Mr Zaka Ashraf was here in the UAE recently and we had a very good meeting where we talked about the role of Coach. The Chairman said to me to continue in the interim role as he was very happy with the performance of the team, my performance, my association with and input into the team. I asked him about my position and he said carry on doing the good job I am doing for Pakistan cricket. I thanked him during the meeting for the feedback, so let’s see what the Pakistan Cricket Board decides in the near future or maybe further down the line. If the Pakistan Cricket Board offers me the role of Coach on a permanent basis then I will look at the terms and conditions before making a final decision. God willing if the PCB do offer me the role and the terms and conditions are good then I will go for it."
