A PCB official confirmed to PakPassion that all applicants had been considered and that the search had been narrowed down to one recommendation for each of the 4 vacant positions.

The PCB committee headed up by Intikhab Alam will next week submit a recommendation to the Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf for each of the 4 coaching positions.

Ashraf had recently made it clear that he would prefer specialist coaches for each of the main areas, batting, bowling and fielding overseen by a head coach and the committee were given the task of narrowing down the list of applicants and forwarding their recommendations onto the Chairman.

A PCB official confirmed to PakPassion that all applicants had been considered and that the search had been narrowed down to one recommendation for each of the 4 vacant positions.

The current Head Coach is Mohsin Khan who has been an interim appointment for both the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka in UAE and the ongoing series against Bangladesh. Ijaz Ahmed and Aaqib Javed are currently the back up coaches working with Mohsin Khan.

Mohsin who was previously the Chief selector, in an earlier interview with PakPassion stated that he would be ready to take on the role of head coach if the terms and conditions were right.

The PCB official stated "the Committee were impressed with the standard of applicants across the board and it wasn't a simple task to make a single recommendation to the Chairman for each role."

"However after much deliberation the Committee are now in a position to make their recommendations to the Chairman for each position."

The PCB official refused to state whether the recommendations for each of the roles were home grown or overseas applicants.

However the official when asked about whether Mohsin Khan was in pole position to be given the role of head coach stated "Only those individuals who applied for a role can be considered".

Dav Whatmore is considered to be the favoured applicant for the role of Head Coach, but it remains to be seen whether he will accept the role, especially having been snubbed by the Pakistan Cricket Board previously.

Whilst Pakistan cricket has enjoyed a relative period of stability and consolidation over the last year, the fact that 4 new coaches could in theory be in position ahead of the huge series against England in the New Year should be one that fills fans with trepidation rather than excitement.
