Speaking excusively to PakPassion.net from Lahore, Pakistan opening batsman Salman Butt said that he would stick to his routines in order to win back a place in the Pakistan team.

"The main thing for me to concentrate on at the moment is to score heavily in domestic cricket, stick to the basics and stick to my routines", said the left handed opening batsman who has just smashed 177 in the opening round of matches in the Quaid E Azam trophy matches.

"I dont like to make changes just for the sake of it and I will stick to what I know best and go with what has helped me over the years and God willing that should help me succeed at this point in my career" stated Butt who is playing for the highly fancied National Bank team this season in domestic cricket.

Butt who was dropped from the Pakistan squad after the tour of Sri Lanka and has not been selected since the 1st test at Galle where he scored 0 and 28 respectively continued "The wicket at the Qaddaffi stadium is a sporting one and I felt good out there. I was middleing the ball nicely and it's great to get off to such a promising start in what is sure to be a very busy season for Pakistan".

Commenting on Pakistan players missing out on last season's IPL and the ongoing Champions League, Butt stated "Yes we are missing out on such tournaments, but Pakistan are of course the reigning Twenty/20 World Champions and missing out on such tournaments does not detract from the fact that Pakistan has some wonderfully gifted players".

Responding to a question about the Champions Trophy, Butt who has represented Pakistan on 106 occasions said "I was as disappointed with the semi final defeat as any other patriotic Pakistani. Whether I am playing for Pakistan or not, I am still fully behind the team and of course I want my friends and team mates to succeed, with or without me in the team. At the end of the day, my team mates are like family members to me. Hopefully the lessons of the New Zealand defeat have been learnt and we can make sure that we dont make the same mistakes in future".

Butt when asked about whether he has had any contact from the selection committee stated "At the time that I was dropped, it was an interim selection committee, but now that the new committee has had time to settle into their roles, I'm hopeful that there will be contact from the selectors".
