Speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net, former Pakistan team Manager Yawar Saeed stated categorically that there was absolutely no sign of any match fixing during Pakistan's matches at the Champions Trophy in South Africa and he hoped that Younus Khan would be back as skipper of the Pakistan team soon.

"I was obviously with the boys, I watched them very closely throughout the tournament and all of them gave their absolute all in every match. Its sad and unfortunate that every time Pakistan loses a game of cricket, certain individuals need to resort to accusations of match fixing. What some people don’t realise is that winning and losing is all part of the game and Pakistan cannot win all of the time".

Yawar whom together with skipper Younus Khan, coach Intikhab Alam and PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt was requested to explain Pakistan's losses against Australia and New Zealand at the Champions Trophy to the Sports Committee of the National Assembly stated that "I was present at the meeting and the four of us (Intikhab, Ijaz, Younus and I) stated that we were absolutely certain that nothing untoward had happened during the Champions Trophy and there was no evidence at all of any match fixing involving Pakistani players".

Yawar who informed the PCB prior to the Champions Trophy that he will no longer be available for any future tours added "During the meeting Younus passed an envelope to Ijaz Butt confirming that he wished to resign from the captaincy with immediate effect. The envelope was handed back to Younus right away by Ijaz".

"Younus is a very emotional and sensitive person at times and he is very hurt by the criticism from the politicians rather than the media. He's fully aware that the media will twist things just to sell a story and that does not bother him, but the criticism from the politicians and the fact that he had to explain the defeats to Australia and New Zealand to the Sports Committee is what has really bothered him. He is a very dignified and self respecting person and he said to me that he has struggled to face his friends and family after these horrible allegations", added Yawar.

Yawar further added "After the meeting finished, the press gathered and an announcement was made by the Sports Committee officials that following the evidence presented by Younus Khan, Ijaz Butt, Intikhab Alam and myself at the meeting, they concluded that there was absolutely no evidence of match fixing and the team were "clean" and that this was the end of the matter as far as they were concerned. However after the meeting, as Ijaz Butt was leaving for the airport in his car, Younus once again handed Ijaz Butt the resignation envelope".

Responding to a question regarding whether he thought Younus would withdraw his resigantion, Yawar stated "I sincerely hope so. Younus and Ijaz Butt are due to meet tomorrow and it will obviously be a very important meeting, with plenty to discuss. I hope that Younus has had time to think about things a little more and he withdraws his resignation".
