Speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net, NCA coach Aaqib Javed stated that he felt that left handed openers Salman Butt and Imran Farhat may get another chance in the Pakistan one day squad.

"Of course I dont have any involvement in the selection, but my gut feeling is that Salman Butt and Imran Farhat will return to the squad for the series against New Zealand in the UAE. I also feel that perhaps Umar Amin and maybe even Khalid Latif might be tried" stated Aaqib.

Aaqib who worked with lanky paceman Mohammad Irfan when the pace bowler first attended the National academy in Lahore was delighted at Irfan's performance against Habib Bank. "Irfan can go a long way in Pakistan cricket, he could play for Pakistan one day in my opinion. He has all the attributes, he's a hard working guy and a good listener, who of course with his height can cause problems from a length for a lot of batsman. He phoned me recently and we talked about the hard work ahead for him".

Aaqib who is reported to have been offered once again the role of assistant coach stated "yes I'm in discussions with the Board but its not all sorted yet. It will hopefully be finalised in the next couple of days".

Aaqib also confirmed that he has been attending some of the training camps in Lahore that teams competing in the Quaid E Azam Trophy. "I was present when ZTBL, National Bank and Habib Bank held their pre season camps in Lahore. It was good to meet up and assess guys like Mohammad Talha and Wahab Riaz. I noticed the changes to Talha's run up and read the article regarding him copying the run up of Brett Lee. I think its a good thing that he has made some changes to his runup".

Aaqib confirmed that he's been monitoring closely the performances of various bowlers in the Quaid E Azam Trophy. "Its good to see Sohail Tanvir returning to form and full fitness and performing well with both bat and ball in the last match for ZTBL. Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Talha and Sohail Khan are also bowlers who have been in good rhythm and doing well at the moment. It will be interesting to see who the selectors opt for in the forthcoming squad".

Responding to a question regarding which team he thought would be champions in the 2009/2010 Quaid E Azam Trophy Aaqib stated "I think ZTBL, Habib Bank and National Bank are the teams to watch out for, but I think National Bank will prove to be a bit too strong for the other teams".
