Speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net, former Under 19 coach Mansoor Rana stated that specialist coaches should accompany the Pakistan team on all current tours.

"I am in favour of having a specialist coach for all three main areas of the game with the team. If home series were being played in Pakistan, then you wouldn't need all three coaches, but at the moment all of Pakistan's matches are in effect "away matches" because obviously no cricket is being played in Pakistan. Therefore I feel you need specialist coaches in batting, bowling and fielding to accompany the team".

Rana who was the coach of the World Cup winning Pakistan Under 19 team of 2006 continued "Coaching is very demanding, and the workload needs to be shared out. The demands of modern day cricket are very high and as I mentioned previously, the current crop of Pakistan players could in theory be away from home for several months at a time. Let me give you the example of Khurram Manzoor. He has not played a lot of cricket of late, yet could be called up at any time if an injury occurred. If there was no batting coach then he will probably be underprepared, but if a batting coach was with the team, then he would have been working with Khurram on a regular basis".

Rana who is currently employed by the PCB as a batting coach at the National Cricket Academy, feels that having a batting coach is even more imperative given the inexperience of the current Pakistan batting lineup. "Gone are the days when we had the likes of Saeed Anwar, Inzamam ul Haq and Ijaz Ahmed. Those players could manage themselves, they could work out minor changes and adjustments required and work on those changes themselves most of the time. However the current group of batsmen can't do that and that is why I feel that appointing a specialist batting coach is vital".

Rana responding to a question about whether he thought Saeed Anwar would be a good choice by the PCB as batting coach stated "I've read in the newspapers that Saeed may be holding a batting camp after the tour of Australia. It's a good idea and Saeed being such a great player, will mean that his comments and ideas will hold a lot of weight with the youngsters. As for appointing Saeed as a full time batting coach, well that is a decision that the PCB need to make and not one for myself to comment on".
