Intikhab Alam today confirmed that the Pakistan Cricket Board will shortly be advertising the role of a full time bowling coach.

Speaking to the media in Lahore at a press conference that unveiled Dav Whatmore as the new head coach and Julien Fountain as the fielding coach, Alam stated that with Aaqib Javed's resignation, the Pakistan Cricket Board will now turn their attentions to appointing a bowling coach.

Current bowling coach Aaqib Javed begins his role as the head coach of the UAE cricket team at the end of the month, having worked for the PCB for over 11 years in a number of roles. He stated that he wanted to further his experience and the role of the UAE head coach was ideal for him.

Ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup, former Pakistan pace bowler Sarfraz Nawaz is working with the fast bowlers in Lahore and will also be working with emerging fast bowlers at a variety of training camps over the next 2 years at varying age levels.

Sarfraz recently stated to PakPassion that there were some confidence issues with the Pakistani fast bowlers during the series in the UAE versus England and these needed attention.

With Zaka Ashraf's preference for "professional and qualified" coaches, this virtually rules out Sarfraz from getting the role on a permanent basis and it may well be that the PCB once again have to look overseas to fill the role of a bowling coach.

Fan's favourite and probable first choice, Wasim Akram has previously stated that due to family comittments he can only help the Pakistani bowlers from time to time at bowling camps, depending upon his availability. Wasim is also working as a commentator and his media comittments also restrict his availability.

Waqar Younis resigned as head coach last year after the tour of Zimbabwe due to personal reasons and it's unlikely that he would be interested in the role.
