Pakpassion.net has been informed by Mr. Sandiip Bhammer, CEO SLPL, that Shahid Afridi has excused himself from the inaugural edition of this tournament due to personal reasons as his wife is undergoing emergency treatment in a hospital in Pakistan.

Pakpassion.net has been informed by Mr. Sandiip Bhammer, CEO SLPL, that Shahid Afridi has excused himself from the inaugural edition of this tournament due to personal reasons as his wife is undergoing emergency treatment in a hospital in Pakistan.

Afridi took part in 3 games for Ruhuna Royals, taking 2 wickets at an average of 35.5 and an economy of 7.88. With the bat, he averaged 27 at a strike rate of 193, and a top score of 36. His team are currently 5th in the points table, having won just one of their first four games.

"Shahid Afridi and Nathan Mccullum have both left the league due to urgent personal reasons. Shahid, who has clearly been enjoying playing in the league and has put in some fantastic performances, has regrettably had to leave as his wife is undergoing urgent emergency treatment in a hospital in Pakistan. Mccullum has also excused himself as his wife is due to give birth."

Sandiip further stated "Afridi's wife was hospitalised and he has gone back to be with her. These issues are unfortunate and beyond the control of the SLPL but the tournament authorities are fully supportive and understanding when it comes to family-related matters of its participating players as it is the players who ultimately make the tournament."

"The SLPL wishes her a speedy and healthy recovery and we hope to have Shahid Afridi back in Sri Lanka in full form as soon as he is able to do so."
