Mention the name Qadir to any cricket fan, current player and former player and it conjures up an image of a hop, skip and jump and then a sudden whirlwind release of the cricket ball.

Abdul Qadir had a certain mystique about him and its rumoured that he could bowl 6 different deliveries in an over. Flippers, googlies, top spinners, leggies were no problem at all to Qadir. In fact he is said to have had 2 different types of googly and wrong one, depending on the opposition batsmen. He could bamboozle even the very best and his 236 test wickets were achieved in 67 test matches.

Well prepare yourself, because here comes another Qadir. His name is Usman Qadir and he is the 16 year old son of the leg spinning legend Abdul Qadir and is rumoured to be a chip off the old block.

Usman is also a leg spinner and has been selected for the Pakistan Under 19 squad which is due to tour Zimbabwe later this month. Usman has not yet played any first class cricket, but despite that, the selectors wanted to take him on the Pakistan "A" tour to Australia earlier this year. However intervention from Qadir senior meant that he wasnt taken to Australia and instead he stayed in Pakistan to continue his preparation for what may be a long and fruitful career.

Abdul Qadir speaking to PakPassion.net stated "He has immense ability and talent for his age. He's been doing very well in domestic Under 19 cricket and he was selected for the Zimbabwe tour after taking 5 wickets in a trial match recently. Usman also performed very well in the Lahore versus Karachi Under 19 match, where he was representing Lahore. PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt as well as selector Ijaz Ahmed have seen Usman in action and were impressed by what they saw. Both had some very kind words of encouragement for him".

Usman is yet to sign a contract with any first class team in Pakistan, although Abdul Qadir mentioned the following "The manager of PIA cricket has already expressed some interest in Usman playing first class cricket for them".

Qadir senior though is expressing caution and said "Usman has to prove himself gradually, he has to be patient and I dont want to rush him and for him to try and achieve too much, too quickly. He has a God given talent and I pray for him. Yes he is a special talent, but everyone must remember he is only 16 and he still has a lot to learn about cricket".

Also speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net the manager of the Under 19 tour to Zimbabwe, Sabih Azhar stated that "Usman has a very bright future, he is a already a very good leg spinner. Not only must you look at his bowling, but he is also a very good batsman. In my opinion, give this boy a couple of years and he'll be ready to play for Pakistan. He is a very hard working lad who is an immense and exciting talent.
