Announcement

Dear Members and Guests

The PakPassion team are delighted to welcome you back to our forums.

You will have noticed that we have re-launched the forums with a new software that we feel will provide our members with a much better all-round experience.

As with any upgrade, it will take a bit of time to get used to and there may be some issues that will need correcting. We have set up this thread

for you to report any issues that need looking into by our technicians or if you have any suggestions regarding the design and the layout of the forums.

We thank you for your patience whilst the forums were not available, but as you can imagine, a project like this takes a lot of planning, organising and hard work.

So, welcome back and happy posting!

Pakistan suffered a humiliating defeat in their second World Cup match against the West Indies which put them at the bottom of the table.

By PakPassion Staff (21st February, 2015)

Result : West Indies beat Pakistan by 150 runs ( West Indies 310/6 in 50 Ov), Pakistan (160 all out)

Teams: Pakistan : Ahmed Shehzad, Jamshed, Younis, Misbah, Sohaib, Haris Sohail, Umar Akmal, Afridi, Irfan, Wahab , Sohail Khan
West Indies : DR Smith, C Gayle, DM Bravo, MN Samuels, D Ramdin, LP Simmons, D Sammy, AD Russell, JO Holder, JE Taylor, SJ Benn

Toss:
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first.

West Indies Innings:

Pakistan were off to a bright start with early wickets of Gayle the dangerman and Smith to leave West Indies reeling at 29-2. Samuels and Darren Bravo then rebuilt gradually with Samuels playing some counterattacking strokes. Just when the partnership looked threatening, Samules was dismissed and Ramdin came to the crease. Ramdin and Bravo played smart cricket, rotating strike and getting the odd boundary that was on offer. Smith suffered from hamstring strain and could not continue when the score was 152-3. But Lendl Simmons came and provided acceleration at the right time. The dismissal of Ramdin did not deter the West Indians, and any hope of Pakistan recovery was not to be. Later order hitting from Sammy and a blitzkrieg from Andre Russel lifted the West Indies to an imposing 310-6 Wickets in 5

Pakistan Innings:

If West Indies innings got off to a bad start, Pakistan got off to one of the worst starts in decade and worst start perhaps in history of the World Cup by finding themselves at 1 run for loss of 4 wickets. It was as tame as it gets. And the manner of dismissals didn't bode any confidence with lackadaisical approach of Shehzad and Haris Sohail contributing to their downfall than great deliveries. Misbah soon followed after making the score 25-5. The only bright part of the day was when Maqsood and Akmal threatened to build a match saving partnership and combined for a stand of 80 but when Maqsood was dismissed off a juicy full toss, it almost summed up Pakistan's day. Umar Akmal tried to hit some shots in the Power Play and perished soon after. Pakistan finally capitulated to a sorry 160 runs which summed their day.

Summary:

Pakistan just didn't have enough steam to beat a restructured West Indies team. They batted with purpose and after getting 310 runs they defended with a purpose. Pakistan lost 4 wickets for just 1 run and after that it was really just saving grace. Pakistan next move to Brisbane where they face the high-flying Zimbabwe who had good warm up games and also won against UAE. Pakistan must now win their remaining matches convincingly to have hope of qualifying for Quarter Finals. West Indies would be mightily pleased to turn around the Ireland blemish and find themselves closer to Quarter Finals then Pakistan.
